- Negotiation and relationship-building skills
- Source gemstones such as sapphires, rubies, emeralds, spinel, tourmaline, garnet, etc.
- Evaluate quality: colour, clarity, cut, carat weight, origin, and treatments.
- Negotiate prices with miners, dealers, cutters, and international suppliers.
- Ensure consistency for collections (matching stones, calibrated sizes).
- Manage inventory and align purchases with design, sales, and market trends.
- Verify certification & ethics (heat/treatment disclosure, responsible sourcing).
