Job Summary
The Critical Care Technician assists doctors and nurses in providing high-quality care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The technician is responsible for maintaining critical care equipment, assisting during emergency procedures, monitoring patient support devices, and ensuring a clean, safe, and infection-free environment.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care Support
* Assist nurses and doctors in the care of critically ill patients.
* Prepare ICU beds and equipment before patient admission.
* Assist in transferring patients safely within the hospital.
* Monitor and report any abnormalities in patient monitoring equipment.
* Support patient positioning, hygiene, and comfort as directed by nursing staff.
Equipment Management
* Operate and maintain ICU equipment such as:
* Cardiac monitors
* Ventilators
* Infusion and syringe pumps
* Suction apparatus
* Defibrillators
* ECG machines
* Pulse oximeters
* Oxygen delivery systems
* Perform routine equipment checks and report malfunctions immediately.
* Ensure emergency equipment is ready for use at all times.
Emergency Assistance
* Assist during CPR and code blue situations.
* Prepare emergency medications and equipment as instructed.
* Assist with intubation, central line insertion, arterial line setup, and other bedside procedures.
Infection Control
* Follow NABH infection prevention and control guidelines.
* Clean and disinfect equipment after each use.
* Dispose of biomedical waste according to hospital protocols.
* Maintain hand hygiene and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Documentation
* Maintain equipment maintenance and usage records.
* Record daily equipment checklists.
* Report incidents or equipment failures promptly.
Stock Management
* Monitor ICU consumables and emergency supplies.
* Inform the concerned department about shortages.
* Ensure adequate stock of oxygen masks, suction catheters, tubing, syringes, and other ICU consumables.
Safety & Quality
* Follow hospital policies, NABH standards, and patient safety protocols.
* Participate in quality improvement activities and departmental training.
* Maintain patient confidentiality and professional conduct.
