Pre-School Teacher
Role Purpose
To create a warm, safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment that supports the holistic development of young children. The teacher will facilitate age-appropriate, play-based and experiential learning while nurturing children's social, emotional, physical, language and cognitive development.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching & Learning
- Plan and implement age-appropriate, engaging and play-based learning experiences.
- Use stories, rhymes, music, movement, art, sensory activities, games and hands-on experiences to facilitate learning.
- Develop foundational skills in language, numeracy, motor skills, creativity and general awareness.
- Encourage children to explore, question, experiment and express themselves.
- Adapt activities to suit different learning needs, abilities and developmental stages.
- Create meaningful learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
2. Child Development & Well-being
- Build warm, trusting and respectful relationships with children.
- Support children's social-emotional development, independence, confidence and communication skills.
- Encourage positive behaviour, sharing, cooperation and empathy.
- Observe children closely and identify developmental, behavioural or learning concerns.
- Ensure children's physical safety, hygiene and emotional well-being at all times.
- Follow all school safeguarding and child-protection policies.
3. Classroom Management
- Maintain a welcoming, organised and child-friendly classroom environment.
- Establish age-appropriate routines and classroom expectations.
- Manage transitions, activities, free play and group time effectively.
- Use positive and respectful behaviour-management strategies.
- Ensure learning resources and classroom materials are appropriately maintained.
4. Planning & Documentation
- Prepare weekly/daily lesson and activity plans aligned with the school's curriculum.
- Maintain records of attendance, observations, learning and developmental progress.
- Document children's learning through observations, portfolios, photographs and other appropriate methods.
- Use observations and assessments to plan the next steps in learning.
5. Parent Engagement
- Maintain regular and professional communication with parents.
- Share meaningful observations about children's learning, development and well-being.
- Participate in Parent-Teacher Meetings and other parent-engagement activities.
- Work collaboratively with parents to support individual children's needs.
6. Collaboration & Professional Development
- Work closely with co-teachers, coordinators, counsellors and support staff.
- Participate in staff meetings, school events, training programmes and professional-development initiatives.
- Contribute ideas towards improving the Early Years programme.
- Stay updated on age-appropriate teaching practices and early childhood education approaches.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education / Early Childhood Education or a relevant discipline.
- ECCE / NTT / Montessori / Pre-Primary teaching qualification will be preferred.
- Prior experience working with young children is preferred; freshers with relevant qualifications may also be considered.
