Job Description – Staff Nurse (PICU & NICU)
Department: PICU / NICU
Location: Women & Children Hospital
Reports To: Nursing Supervisor / Nursing Superintendent
Qualification: B.Sc Nursing / GNM with valid Nursing Registration
Experience: 1–3 years experience in PICU, NICU, Pediatric Ward, or Critical Care (Freshers with NICU/PICU exposure may be considered)
Position Summary
The Staff Nurse – PICU/NICU is responsible for providing high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill newborns, infants, and children. The nurse will monitor patients, administer medications, operate critical care equipment, assist in emergency procedures, and provide support and education to families while ensuring patient safety and infection control standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to neonates and pediatric patients admitted in NICU/PICU.
- Perform initial and ongoing assessment of patient condition and monitor vital signs.
- Identify and report changes in patient status promptly to the treating physician.
- Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans.
- Maintain accurate nursing documentation and patient records.
Medication & Treatment
- Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and treatments as prescribed.
- Calculate and administer weight-based medication dosages accurately.
- Assist physicians during procedures such as intubation, central line insertion, lumbar puncture, and resuscitation.
- Monitor patient response to treatment and document outcomes.
Critical Care Monitoring
- Operate and monitor ventilators, CPAP, infusion pumps, syringe pumps, monitors, and other life-support equipment.
- Continuously assess respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and nutritional status.
- Respond effectively to emergencies and participate in Code Blue and neonatal resuscitation activities.
Family Support & Education
- Provide emotional support and counseling to parents and caregivers.
- Educate families regarding patient condition, treatment plans, feeding practices, and discharge instructions.
- Maintain compassionate communication with families during critical situations.
Infection Control & Safety
- Follow infection prevention and control protocols strictly.
- Ensure safe handling of medications, equipment, and biomedical waste.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and child-friendly environment.
- Adhere to hospital policies, NABH standards, and patient safety guidelines.
Team Collaboration
- Coordinate with pediatricians, neonatologists, intensivists, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in ward rounds, case discussions, and clinical audits.
- Assist in mentoring junior nursing staff and nursing students.

Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Exposure to critical care and emergency situations.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and respond rapidly to emergencies.
Pay: From ₹20,000.00 per month
