An Operation Theatre (OT) Technician prepares and maintains the surgical suite, manages medical equipment, and assists surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses before, during, and after operations. They ensure a sterile environment and handle patient transport and instrument sterilization.
Key ResponsibilitiesPre-Surgery Preparation
- Set up and test surgical equipment like lights, suction units, monitors, and anesthesia machines.
- Sterilize and arrange surgical instruments, trays, and supplies.
- Clean, fumigate, and maintain the OT environment according to safety protocols.
- Transport patients to the OT and position them correctly on the operating table.
Intra-Operative Assistance
- Hand tools and sterile supplies to surgeons and scrub nurses.
- Monitor equipment performance and patient vitals with the medical team.
- Manage biomedical waste and maintain strict sterile field integrity.
- Handle emergency drugs or specialized imaging tools (like C-arm machines) as directed.
Post-Surgery Duties
- Transfer patients safely to the recovery room or ICU.
- Clean, decontaminate, and pack instruments for autoclaving.
- Dispose of biomedical and hazardous waste per hospital guidelines.
- Restock the room and log equipment checks or maintenance needs.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education: Diploma or B.Sc. in Operation Theatre Technology (OTT) or a related paramedical field.
- Certifications: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is often required.
- Skills: Strong understanding of aseptic techniques, equipment troubleshooting, physical stamina to stand for long hours, and clear communication under pressure.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
