- Operate drilling machines such as:
- Radial drilling machine
- Pillar/bench drilling machine
- CNC drilling machines (if applicable)
- Read and interpret:
- Engineering drawings
- Blueprints
- Work instructions
- Set up workpieces:
- Secure materials using clamps, vices, or fixtures
- Align components properly before drilling
- Select appropriate:
- Drill bits
- Speeds and feeds based on material
- Perform drilling, reaming, tapping, and countersinking operations
- Measure and inspect finished parts using:
- Vernier calipers
- Micrometers
- Gauges
- Maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish
- Perform routine machine maintenance:
- Lubrication
- Cleaning
- Basic troubleshooting
- Follow safety standards and wear PPE
- Maintain production records and report issues
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education:
- ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or relevant field
Experience:
- 1–5 years in machine shop or fabrication unit (preferred)
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of drilling operations and tooling
- Ability to read technical drawings
- Familiarity with measuring instruments
- Basic understanding of machining tolerances
Soft Skills:
- Attention to detail
- Discipline and safety awareness
- Teamwork
- Time management
Working Conditions
- Shop floor environment (noise, oil, metal chips)
- Standing for long hours
- Shift work may be required
