Applications are invited from interested and motivated candidates for the Junior Research Fellow (JRF) post in a ANRF-sponsored research project for a temporary period, purely on a contractual basis, as per the following details.
Number of Vacancy: 1
Reporting to: Ratna Ghosal, Associate Professor, Biological and Life Sciences division, School of Arts and Sciences
Project Title: Interplay among gene, environment, protein and behavioral readouts explaining plasticity in visual sensitivity and its functional significance in green chromides, a freshwater fish native to India
Project Tenure: 3 years (based on a performance review)
Job Description: We are seeking a motivated and skilled Junior Research Fellow to join our team for an exciting project focused on understanding sensory plasticity in green chromides. The project involves doing field work in natural habitats of the green chromides and understanding the molecular mechanisms driving the visual performance of the fishes under the given environment.
Key responsibilities
- Develop primers targeting the visual genes in the green chromides.
- Standardise and conduct qPCR methods on analysing the expression of several visual genes.
- Bioinformatic analyses of transcriptome sequencing data
- Conduct field work in different freshwater habitats within India
- Standardise and conduct behavioural experiments, both in the field and under laboratory conditions, to understand visual performance of the green chromides under a given environment.
- Standardise the protocol for measuring several abiotic parameters in the field for evaluating the quality of the habitat
- Maintain and sustain healthy populations of the green chromides under laboratory conditions.
If you are passionate about wildlife research and have the required skills, we encourage you to apply and contribute to this innovative project.
