Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled and responsible Operation Theatre Technician to support the surgical team in maintaining a safe, sterile, and efficient operating theatre environment. The candidate will assist surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses before, during, and after surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the Operation Theatre before scheduled surgical procedures.
- Ensure all surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are available and ready for use.
- Assist the surgical team during procedures as required.
- Maintain strict aseptic and infection-control practices.
- Handle, arrange, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.
- Assist with sterilization and proper storage of instruments.
- Check OT equipment, anesthesia equipment, suction, cautery, lights, and other essential systems before procedures.
- Ensure availability of implants, consumables, sutures, and other OT requirements.
- Assist in patient positioning and safe transfer to and from the operating table.
- Follow proper procedures for handling specimens and ensure timely transfer to the laboratory.
- Maintain OT registers, checklists, and required documentation.
- Assist in cleaning and preparing the OT between procedures.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or damaged equipment to the concerned authority.
- Follow hospital policies, OT protocols, infection-control guidelines, and patient-safety standards.
- Support emergency surgeries whenever required.
- Coordinate effectively with surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, housekeeping, CSSD, and other departments.
Qualification & Skills
- Diploma/B.Sc. in Operation Theatre Technology or equivalent qualification.
- 2–5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a hospital/OT setting.
- Good knowledge of surgical instruments and OT procedures.
- Knowledge of sterilization and infection-control practices.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure during emergency procedures.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
- Willingness to work in shifts and support emergency OT requirements.
