Job Title: Senior Business Analyst - Data

1. Job Purpose
The key purpose of this role is to define desirable, viable, feasible, and sustainable data solutions that meets organisational needs for ubiquitous timely and accurate information and to support development across the product life cycle.
The role is a key conduit between the business stakeholders and the lab development teams, engineers and other domain services and maintains alignment with the Product Owner’s vision and goals and the prioritised backlog.
The role is responsible for ensuring a DOR (definition of ready) status for all functional and technical user stories. This comprises feasibility assessment, journey and process mapping, feature decomposition and definition, dependency identification, data change specification, solution verification (eg APIs, microservice functionality and integrations), testing acceptance criteria definition and engineering effort estimation. Operating in an Agile environment, the role ensures that data solutions align with business goals, enabling informed decision-making and driving business values.
The role will ensure adherence to governance and quality standards ensuring review and acceptance by the Product Owner and relevant business stakeholders.
2. Core Responsibilities
- Partner the Data Product Owner, Engineers, QA’s and product team in identifying product improvement opportunities in line with business Outcomes and Key Results (OKRs), the Product Owner’s vision and roadmap.
- As a senior agile Business Analyst in Data & Analytics, you’ll be leading complex business analysis across multiple stakeholders and business functions, while providing line management for a team of Business Analysis, including mentoring, coaching, performance management, setting objectives and conducting regular 1-21.
- Define and standardise best practice for data analysis, requirements gathering and documentations to improve consistency and quality across the BA data function.
- Act as a key liaison between business stakeholders, product owners and development team in an Agile environment, ensuring clear communication and alignment of business objectives.
- Conduct business impact assessments, feasibility studies and research into systems, processes and products as required, making recommendations for the best options available to meet business objectives.
- Support the Product Owner in prioritising the backlog and backlog items based on business value and delivery constraints and dependencies
- Responsible for the requirement elicitation and analysis for the prioritised backlog within agreed timelines decomposing into functional and technical user stories and ensuring that they are clear, concise, actionable and testable. Through this process ensure timely and relevant engagement with business stakeholders, engineering and other technical specialists. All analysis activity and outcomes to maintain close alignment with the overall vision as defined by the product owner. Apply concepts of Lean Agile, Customer Centricity and Design Thinking within the analysis approach.
- Develop data models, data flows and other data related artefacts to visualise data relationship and process.
- Assure solutions through techniques such as data modelling, data lineage, data dictionary, and information quality requirements.
- Where required support with creation of RFP documentation for the selection of solution components from new or existing vendors in line with OSB Group standards and consistent with direction from Architecture and Procurement professionals.
- Assure the quality of analysis artefacts building-in quality through a range of techniques including peer and expert review, upholding artefact standards, maintaining tool-based trace, and applying fail-fast build and learn techniques such as modelling, wireframing, and prototyping.
- Actively participate in all relevant Agile events such as PI planning, backlog refinement and retrospectives advocating for alignment and relentless improvement.
- Proactively undertakes self-development activities to cultivate Subject Matter Expertise across different areas in their field, integrating this knowledge to perform complex and diverse tasks.
- Represent Lab as Subject Matter Expert with a working knowledge of the organisation’s domain: its services, technologies, architecture, business processes and procedures.
- Supports the development of persistent artefacts for the assigned business domain such as personas, empathy and journey maps, operating models, business models, process models and data models.
- Support the QE team in the creation of test strategy plans, which align with and trace to requirements along with the Test Manager.
- Support with the ongoing development and enhancement of robust team operating frameworks, document and tools
- Manage communication where embedding change to ways of working.
- Ensure that you fully understand and comply with the organisation’s Risk Management Policies as they relate to your area of responsibility and demonstrate in your day to day work that you put customers at the heart of everything you do;

3. Experience Requirements
- A solid background in business analysis with a minimum 6 years’ experience operating at senior / lead Agile Business Analyst (or equivalent) of which 3 years’ experience of working on data centric assignments is essential. This will include:
- Owned requirements lifecycle from discovery through to implementation, ensuring alignment between business needs and technical solutions.
- Partner with senior stakeholders to define KPIs, reporting framework and deliver strategic business objectives.
- Collaborate with data engineering, data PO, QA’s, data leadership to implement scalable data platform and analytics solutions.
- Provide line management for a team of business analyst, including performance management, objectives setting, career development, resource planning, workload prioritisation and capability development across the Data BA function.
- Proficiently writing functional and technical user stories and related acceptance criteria in alignment with business objectives
- Familiarity with data architecture, ETL process and cloud data platforms (eg. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
- Experience with SQL for querying database and familiarity data visualisation tools like Tableau Power BI or Qlik
- Conducting benchmarking and research techniques to support the definition of user stories
- Extensive experience working in Agile framework (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe)
- Use of Atlassian tools, Confluence and JIRA, for requirement decomposition, definition, elaboration and trace
- Conducting change management planning to support business adoption and benefit realisation
- A minimum of 6 years within the Financial Services industry of which 3 years’ experience of working within Mortgage and Savings, products and domain services is essential.
4. Knowledge Requirements
- Strong knowledge of business analysis framework, tools and best practice (e.g. requirements elicitation, process modelling, stakeholder analysis, traceability).
- Significant technical understanding of a business intelligence landscape including the fintech operational systems, data repositories, data services, data migration, data management and cloud storage is essential.
- Excellent in people management principles including performance management, coaching and team development.
- Extensive practical knowledge of tools, techniques, processes for elicitation and management of Business and technical Requirements is essential.
- Significant technical understanding of domains services, software development processes, technologies and architecture is essential
- Familiarity with financial services and preferably banking services domains is essential
- Excellent practical knowledge and understand of, and compliance with, regulatory requirements and Risk Management policies is desirable
- Extensive practical knowledge of Agile change methodology is essential
- Experience with SAFe 6.0 Agile Change Framework is desirable.
- Extensive knowledge of savings and mortgage products is desirable.
- Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Agile tools is essential.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical and creative problem-solving skills is essential.
- Capacity to think laterally and convey an understanding of the big picture is desirable.
5. Skill and Competency Requirements
- Advanced skills in information requirement definition including data modelling, data lineage and information quality specification are essential.
- Advanced level skills in respect of verbal & written communication are essential
- Strong problem solving, leadership and influence skills are essential
- Strong ability to analyse complex data and business process to identify insight and opportunities is essential
- Strong facilitation skills, including leading workshops to elicit, refine and prioritise requirements.
- Ability to manage competing prioritise across multiple squads while maintaining quality and delivery standards.
- Strong decision-making capability able operate effectively in fast changing environment.
- Hands on experience with tools such as SQL is essential and data visualisation platform is desirable.
- Ability to collaborate with cross functional teams including developer, testers, Product Owners and stakeholders is essential
- Advanced level skills in respect of the ability tasks and manage time effectively are essential
- Intermediate level skills in respect of the ability to self-manage are essential
6. Required Qualifications/Certifications
- GCSE qualifications in both Maths and English are essential.
- Scrum product owner (CPSO) or an equivalent agile analysis certification essential
- Degree or equivalent is desirable
