The Field Quality - Mechanical Engineer is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality for mechanical components and systems throughout various project phases, from fabrication to installation and commissioning. This role involves rigorous on-site inspection, testing, and verification to identify and resolve potential quality issues before they impact project timelines or performance. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical engineering, quality assurance principles, and a keen eye for detail, ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, and industry best practices. This position requires proactive problem-solving, effective communication with various stakeholders, and meticulous documentation of all quality-related activities.
- Conduct comprehensive on-site inspections of mechanical equipment, components, and installations to ensure adherence to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
- Perform visual inspections, dimensional checks, and witness mechanical tests (e.g., pressure tests, functional tests) as required by project specifications and quality plans.
- Review and approve Material Test Reports (MTRs), fabrication procedures, welding procedures (WPS/PQR), and other quality-related documentation.
- Identify, document, and report non-conformances, deviations, and potential quality issues, initiating corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) as necessary.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and suppliers to resolve quality discrepancies and implement effective solutions.
- Monitor the implementation of quality control plans and inspection test plans (ITPs) by contractors and vendors.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, daily quality logs, and progress reports, maintaining accurate and traceable records of all quality activities.
- Participate in root cause analysis for quality failures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry codes, standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO), and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and support on quality-related matters to project teams and field personnel.
