Job Summary
The Nursing Superintendent is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, and evaluating all nursing services in the hospital. The role ensures the delivery of safe, ethical, patient-centered, and high-quality nursing care in accordance with hospital policies, NABH standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Nursing Administration
- Plan, organize, and supervise all nursing activities in the hospital.
- Ensure adequate nursing staff deployment and duty roster management.
- Monitor nursing manpower utilization and maintain appropriate staffing levels.
- Coordinate with department heads to ensure smooth patient care services.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Patient Care
- Ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care.
- Monitor the quality of nursing care and implement corrective actions when required.
- Supervise patient admission, transfer, discharge, and referral processes.
- Address patient and attendant complaints related to nursing services.
Quality & NABH Compliance
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards and statutory requirements.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
- Monitor nursing quality indicators and implement improvement measures.
- Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of nursing records.
Human Resource Management
- Participate in recruitment, selection, orientation, and retention of nursing staff.
- Conduct performance appraisals and provide constructive feedback.
- Identify training needs and organize continuous nursing education (CNE) programs.
- Promote discipline, teamwork, and professional ethics among nursing personnel.
Infection Prevention & Patient Safety
- Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention and control practices.
- Monitor biomedical waste segregation and disposal as per regulations.
- Ensure implementation of patient safety goals and risk management practices.
- Participate in incident reporting, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Training & Development
- Organize induction and in-service training for nursing staff.
- Conduct competency assessments and skill evaluations.
- Promote evidence-based nursing practices and professional development.
Inventory & Equipment Management
- Ensure availability of nursing supplies, medicines, and equipment.
- Monitor proper utilization and maintenance of nursing equipment.
- Coordinate with biomedical engineering and stores for equipment servicing and procurement.
Coordination
- Work closely with doctors, allied health professionals, pharmacy, laboratory, housekeeping, and administration.
- Participate in hospital committees such as:
o Nursing Committee
o Infection Control Committee
o Quality Committee
o Patient Safety Committee
o Biomedical Waste Management Committee
o Code Blue Committee
Qualifications
- B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (Mandatory)
- M.Sc. Nursing (Preferred)
- Valid State Nursing Council Registration.
Experience
- Minimum 10–15 years of clinical nursing experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial nursing role.
- Experience in a NABH-accredited hospital is preferred.
