Role Summary
The Registrar / Junior Consultant in Emergency Medicine is responsible for providing immediate assessment, stabilization, diagnosis, and treatment of patients presenting with acute medical and surgical emergencies. The role involves working in a fast-paced emergency department, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess and manage patients presenting to the Emergency Department (ED)
- Perform initial triage and emergency stabilization
- Diagnose and treat acute illnesses, trauma, and life-threatening conditions
- Conduct emergency procedures such as:
- Intubation
- Central line insertion
- Suturing
- CPR and advanced life support
- Trauma management
- Coordinate admissions, referrals, and transfers
- Interpret investigations including ECG, X-rays, ABG, and laboratory reports
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation
- Participate in code blue, disaster management, and emergency response teams
- Supervise junior doctors/interns where applicable
- Ensure adherence to hospital protocols and patient safety standards
- Participate in academic activities, CME programs, and departmental audits
Qualification
- MBBS with:
- MD/DNB/Diploma in Emergency Medicine
- 0–3 years for Junior Consultant
- Freshers with Emergency Medicine training may be considered
Required Skills
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making
- Ability to work under pressure
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- ACLS/BLS/ATLS certification preferred
- Efficient multitasking abilities
Duty Schedule
- Rotational shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
