About MBRDI
Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI), headquartered in Bengaluru with a satellite office in Pune, is the largest R&D center for Mercedes-Benz Group AG outside of Germany. Our mission is to drive innovation and excellence in automotive engineering, digitalization, and sustainable mobility solutions, shaping the future of mobility.
About the Role
MBRDI is seeking a Platform Architect to lead the design, integration, and continuous evolution of our AWS-based Helios cloud platform ecosystem. Our platform — which powers enterprise applications across Sales and After-Sales verticals — is currently undergoing a strategic merger of two previously independent platforms. The architect will play a pivotal role in harmonizing these ecosystems, resolving integration challenges, rationalizing services, and defining a unified architectural vision.
This is a senior technical role that blends architecture strategy, hands-on technical expertise to ensure scalability, security, developer productivity, and operational excellence across the platform.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Integration & Rationalization
- Lead the architectural integration of two existing AWS-based platform ecosystems.
- Assess overlaps, dependencies, and inconsistencies across components such as EKS clusters, CI/CD pipelines, observability tools, and IAM models.
- Provide architecture review and consultation to platform and engineering teams to resolve integration challenges and ensure consistent design principles.
- Define a target-state architecture for a unified, scalable internal developer platform (IDP).
- Establish a clear roadmap for consolidation, migration, and decommissioning of redundant services.
Platform Architecture & Strategy
- Define and evolve the end-to-end architecture of the internal platform ecosystem spanning: Cloud Excellence (EKS Dedicated Clusters, Namespaces, ECS, Lambda, Launchpad for Mainframe), Developer Ecosystem (JFrog Artifactory, Harbor, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, PactFlow), Event & Data Framework (Kafka-based EventHub, CFT Adapters), Security & Compliance (Bluebox Secure Orchestration, Guardrails, Compliance Dashboards), Observability & Operations (Datadog, centralized monitoring).
- Establish platform-wide standards, reusable patterns, and automation frameworks for consistent adoption across domains.
- Drive innovation while maintaining architectural governance and cost efficiency.
Platform Engineering Leadership
- Collaborate with engineering leads to build reusable services, plugins, and self-service capabilities (e.g., via Backstage, AWS ordering tools, and Jira Service Desk).
- Champion automation-first principles using Terraform, CloudFormation, and GitHub Actions.
- Provide expert guidance on DevSecOps, GitOps, and continuous delivery practices.
Security, Compliance & Governance
- Design and enforce architecture standards aligned with enterprise security and compliance policies.
- Oversee implementation of automated guardrails, IAM frameworks, and secure orchestration layers (Bluebox).
- Continuously review and enhance the Security & Compliance Dashboard to maintain transparency and auditability.
Observability, Reliability & Operations
- Define observability and reliability standards using Datadog and other monitoring tools.
- Establish platform SLOs/SLIs and promote proactive incident management and root cause analysis.
- Drive operational maturity through standardization and automation.
Architecture Consultation & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Act as a trusted consultant to platform, application, and infrastructure teams for architectural reviews, modernization decisions, and migration strategies.
- Engage with senior stakeholders from Sales and After-Sales domains to align the unified platform’s roadmap with business objectives.
- Foster collaboration across domain architects, security, and data teams to ensure holistic design integration.
