Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and result-oriented Senior Sales Head to lead and drive business growth across General Trade (GT) and Modern Trade (MT) channels. The role will be responsible for developing sales strategies, expanding distribution networks, managing key retail partnerships, achieving revenue targets, and building a high-performance sales organization.
The ideal candidate will have extensive FMCG sales leadership experience, strong relationships with key retail chains and distributors, and a proven track record of scaling businesses across multiple sales channels.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Strategy & Business Growth
- Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve annual, quarterly, and monthly revenue targets.
- Drive market expansion and distribution growth across General Trade and Modern Trade channels.
- Identify new business opportunities, geographic markets, and channel expansion initiatives.
- Build and implement channel-specific growth plans aligned with company objectives.
General Trade Management
- Lead distributor appointment, management, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Strengthen market coverage, outlet penetration, and product availability.
- Drive secondary sales and ensure achievement of sales targets across territories.
- Monitor distributor profitability, stock levels, and working capital efficiency.
- Implement trade schemes, promotions, and market development activities.
Modern Trade Management
- Manage and grow relationships with key accounts such as Reliance Retail, D-Mart, Metro, Star Bazaar, Spencer's, and other national/regional chains.
- Lead annual business planning and Joint Business Plans (JBP) with modern trade partners.
- Negotiate commercial agreements, listings, visibility programs, promotions, and trade investments.
- Ensure strong in-store execution, merchandising, and inventory management.
- Drive sales performance and profitability across all modern trade accounts.
Team Leadership
- Build, mentor, and lead high-performing sales teams across regions and channels.
- Establish clear KPIs and performance management systems.
- Conduct regular reviews, coaching sessions, and capability-building initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and execution excellence.
Business Planning & Analytics
- Analyze sales performance, market trends, competitor activities, and channel opportunities.
- Develop sales forecasts and demand plans in collaboration with supply chain and operations teams.
- Monitor sales productivity, ROI on trade spends, and profitability metrics.
- Present periodic business reviews and growth plans to senior management.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Marketing, Supply Chain, Finance, Operations, and Product Development teams.
- Ensure smooth execution of product launches, promotional campaigns, and customer commitments.
- Support private label and OEM business opportunities through channel partnerships.
Required Candidate Profile
- 10–20 years of FMCG sales experience with significant exposure to both General Trade and Modern Trade channels.
- Proven track record of delivering sales growth and achieving revenue targets.
- Strong understanding of distributor management, retail operations, and channel development.
- Established relationships with key modern trade retailers and distributor networks.
- Excellent negotiation, business planning, and commercial management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing large sales teams.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
