Job Summary
The Dialysis Technician is responsible for performing safe and effective hemodialysis treatments, operating dialysis machines, and monitoring patient vital signs before, during, and after treatment. Working under the guidance of a Nephrologist and nursing supervisor, the technician ensures patient comfort and strictly adheres to infection control protocols.
Responsibilities & Duties
- Machine Operation: Set up, prime, and troubleshoot hemodialysis machines (e.g., dialyzer, tubing, and solutions).
- Patient Assessment: Prepare patients for dialysis, including weighing, measuring vitals, and assessing access sites (AV fistula, graft, catheter).
- Treatment Administration: Perform vascular access cannulation and initiate treatment as per protocols.
- Monitoring & Safety: Monitor patients continuously during treatment, adjusting fluid removal rates and handling machine alarms.
- Emergency Response: Respond to patient discomfort or adverse reactions (e.g., hypotension, cramping) immediately.
- Sanitization: Clean and disinfect machines and equipment between treatments to maintain strict infection control.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate patient records, treatment logs, and inventory of supplies.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Diploma in Dialysis Technology or relevant Allied Health degree.
- Experience: 5 – 8 years of experience in a hospital or clinic dialysis setup (preferred).
- Certifications: Certification as a Dialysis Technician is highly desirable.
- Core Competencies: Proficiency in AV fistula cannulation, knowledge of renal nursing techniques, and machine maintenance.
- Soft Skills: Strong patient empathy, communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
