Job Summary
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Labour Room Staff Nurse to provide safe and quality nursing care to antenatal, labouring and postnatal patients. The candidate will be responsible for assisting doctors during labour and delivery, monitoring patients, maintaining accurate clinical records, and ensuring strict adherence to hospital protocols and infection-control standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients admitted to the Labour Room.
- Receive and assess patients admitted for labour and delivery.
- Monitor maternal vital signs, fetal heart rate and labour progress.
- Assist doctors during normal vaginal deliveries and emergency procedures.
- Prepare patients for delivery and procedures.
- Assist with induction of labour and other obstetric procedures as instructed.
- Maintain and monitor CTG/fetal monitoring where applicable.
- Administer medications, IV fluids and injections as prescribed.
- Maintain accurate nursing notes, labour charts and patient records.
- Ensure timely escalation of abnormal maternal or fetal findings to the doctor.
- Assist in managing obstetric emergencies as per hospital protocol.
- Prepare and maintain emergency equipment, drugs and delivery-room supplies.
- Assist in newborn care immediately after delivery as required.
- Follow proper identification and documentation procedures for mother and newborn.
- Maintain strict infection-prevention and control practices.
- Ensure proper sterilisation and handling of instruments.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the Labour Room.
- Coordinate with doctors, paediatricians, OT, laboratory and other departments.
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and attendants.
- Educate patients regarding labour, post-delivery care, breastfeeding and newborn care as instructed.
- Ensure proper handover between shifts.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Report incidents, adverse events and emergencies promptly.
- Participate in hospital training, drills, audits and quality-improvement activities.
- Follow hospital SOPs, nursing protocols, NABH requirements and patient-safety standards.
Qualification
- GNM / B.Sc. Nursing
- Valid nursing registration.
- Additional training/experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology will be an advantage.
Experience
- 1–5 years of relevant hospital experience preferred.
- Experience in Labour Room / Obstetrics & Gynaecology preferred.
- Candidates with experience handling normal deliveries and obstetric emergencies will be preferred.
