Job Summary
We are looking for a qualified and compassionate Dietician to provide professional nutritional assessment, diet counselling and therapeutic diet planning for inpatients and outpatients. The Dietician will work closely with doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized nutrition plans based on the patient's medical condition, nutritional requirements and treatment plan.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Assessment
- Assess the nutritional status and dietary requirements of patients.
- Review medical history, diagnosis, laboratory reports and treatment plans as required.
- Identify nutritional deficiencies, dietary restrictions and specific nutritional needs.
- Conduct regular nutritional assessments and follow-ups.
2. Diet Planning
- Prepare individualized therapeutic diet plans based on the patient's medical condition.
- Plan diets for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, renal disorders, cardiac diseases, obesity, gastrointestinal disorders and other clinical conditions.
- Modify diet plans according to changes in the patient's condition.
- Ensure diets are nutritionally balanced, safe and appropriate for the prescribed medical treatment.
3. Patient & Attender Counselling
- Provide diet and nutrition counselling to patients and their attendants.
- Explain therapeutic diets, food restrictions, portion sizes and meal schedules.
- Educate patients regarding healthy eating habits and lifestyle modifications.
- Provide dietary guidance during discharge and follow-up.
4. Inpatient Diet Management
- Conduct regular ward rounds as required.
- Coordinate with doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals regarding patient dietary requirements.
- Ensure prescribed diets are communicated correctly to the kitchen/catering team.
- Monitor patient acceptance and tolerance of prescribed diets.
- Make necessary dietary modifications based on clinical requirements.
5. Kitchen & Food Service Coordination
- Coordinate with the hospital kitchen regarding preparation and distribution of patient diets.
- Ensure the correct diet is provided to the correct patient.
- Monitor food quality, portion size, consistency and therapeutic diet requirements.
- Ensure special diets are prepared according to prescribed nutritional requirements.
- Coordinate with kitchen staff regarding menu planning and dietary modifications.
6. Special & Therapeutic Diets
- Develop specialized diets for patients requiring:
- Diabetic diet
- Renal diet
- Low-sodium diet
- Cardiac diet
- Low-fat diet
- High-protein diet
- Low-protein diet
- Enteral nutrition
- Post-operative diet
- Weight-management diet
- Provide appropriate nutritional guidance based on physician recommendations.
7. Documentation
- Maintain accurate patient diet assessment and counselling records.
- Document nutritional assessments, diet plans and follow-up details.
- Maintain daily diet orders and diet modification records.
- Prepare reports and maintain departmental documentation as required.
8. Quality & Infection Control
- Follow hospital policies, SOPs and food safety standards.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control practices.
- Follow food hygiene and sanitation requirements.
- Participate in hospital quality improvement activities and audits.
- Support compliance with applicable NABH standards and hospital protocols.
9. Education & Awareness
- Conduct nutrition education sessions for patients, attendants and hospital staff.
- Participate in health awareness programmes and nutrition camps.
- Conduct presentations or training sessions on healthy nutrition when required.
- Keep updated with current nutrition and clinical dietetics practices.
Qualifications
- B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Nutrition & Dietetics, Food & Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition or equivalent.
- Relevant professional certification/registration, wherever applicable.
- Previous hospital/clinical experience preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of clinical and therapeutic nutrition.

- Knowledge of medical nutrition therapy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prepare individualized diet plans.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology and laboratory parameters.

- Computer proficiency for maintaining patient and departmental records.
