A North Indian Cook in a college is responsible for preparing nutritious, hygienic, and high-quality North Indian meals for students and staff. The cook ensures food is prepared according to the hostel menu, maintains cleanliness in the kitchen, follows food safety standards, and supports efficient kitchen operations to provide timely meal service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a variety of North Indian dishes, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, breads, curries, rice, and desserts.
- Follow the approved hostel menu and standardized recipes while maintaining consistent taste and quality.
- Ensure food is prepared and served on time according to the hostel meal schedule.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, cooking utensils, and food preparation areas.
- Store food ingredients properly and monitor inventory to minimize waste.
- Check the quality and freshness of raw materials before use.
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and personal hygiene standards.
- Assist in planning menus and estimating ingredient requirements.
- Coordinate with kitchen staff and hostel administration to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
- Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and report any maintenance requirements.
Required Skills
- Expertise in preparing authentic North Indian cuisine.
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation practices.
- Ability to cook large quantities of food while maintaining quality and consistency.
- Time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet meal schedules.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Certificate or vocational training in food production/cookery is an advantage.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a North Indian Cook, preferably in a hostel, educational institution, hotel, or large-scale catering establishment.
- Knowledge of safe food handling practices and kitchen hygiene standards.
