Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Purchase Manager to oversee the procurement of materials, machinery, spare parts, fuel, and services required for our road construction projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing an efficient purchasing system, ensuring timely procurement, negotiating the best prices, maintaining strong supplier relationships, and controlling procurement costs while ensuring uninterrupted project execution.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage end-to-end procurement for road construction projects, including raw materials, construction materials, machinery, spare parts, fuel, lubricants, and site requirements.
* Develop and implement a structured procurement system and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
* Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable vendors and contractors.
* Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules to achieve cost savings.
* Ensure timely procurement to avoid project delays.
* Compare quotations, prepare cost analyses, and recommend the most cost-effective suppliers.
* Coordinate with project managers, site engineers, stores, and accounts to understand procurement requirements.
* Maintain optimum inventory levels while preventing excess stock.
* Track purchase orders from requisition to delivery and ensure timely closure.
* Operate and maintain procurement records through the ERP system.
* Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly procurement reports, including pending purchase orders, supplier performance, inventory status, and cost-saving initiatives.
* Monitor supplier performance based on quality, pricing, and delivery timelines.
* Ensure compliance with company policies and contractual obligations.
Requirements
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
* 5+ years of experience in procurement, preferably in road construction, infrastructure, EPC, or heavy equipment industries.
* Strong knowledge of construction materials, heavy machinery, spare parts, fuel procurement, and vendor management.
* Experience using ERP software for procurement and inventory management.
* Excellent negotiation, analytical, and vendor management skills.
* Strong understanding of purchase contracts, costing, and inventory control.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools.
Preferred Skills
* Experience in procurement for highway, road, bridge, or infrastructure projects.
* Knowledge of fleet and equipment spare parts procurement.
* Strong network of vendors in the construction industry.
* Ability to reduce procurement costs without compromising quality or delivery timelines.
