Role Overview
The Librarian is responsible for managing and developing the school library as a dynamic learning hub that supports the IB philosophy of inquiry, research, international-mindedness, and lifelong learning. The role includes fostering literacy, information fluency, digital citizenship, and collaborative learning across all grade levels. Training related to IB standards and library systems will be provided by the school.
Key ResponsibilitiesLibrary Management
- Organize, maintain, and manage physical and digital library resources.
- Catalog and classify books and learning materials using appropriate library systems.
- Maintain records of circulation, inventory, and acquisitions.
- Ensure the library environment is welcoming, safe, and conducive to learning.
Student Support & Learning
- Guide students in research skills, referencing, and information literacy.
- Promote reading habits and a culture of inquiry among students.
- Assist students and teachers in locating and evaluating resources.
- Support independent learning and project-based research.
Collaboration with Teachers
- Work collaboratively with teachers to support curriculum needs.
- Curate resources aligned with IB units of inquiry and subject requirements.
- Assist in integrating digital tools and research resources into classroom learning.
Digital & Technology Support
- Manage e-books, online databases, and digital learning resources.
- Promote responsible use of information and digital citizenship.
- Support students and staff in using library technology platforms.
Events & Engagement
- Organize reading programs, book fairs, author visits, and literacy activities.
- Celebrate international and literary events within the school community.
- Encourage participation in reading challenges and library initiatives.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science / Library & Information Science or related field.
- Prior experience in a school library preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of digital library tools and educational technology.
- Interest in IB philosophy and inquiry-based learning.
- Training for IB processes and systems will be provided.
