The Senior Specialist – Backup & Data Protection will be responsible for the engineering, design, automation, and continual enhancement of LSEG’s enterprise backup, recovery, and data protection platforms. The role is focused on delivering resilient, scalable, secure, and highly automated services that support business continuity, cyber resilience, and regulatory obligations across the organisation.
Working in close partnership with the Product Owner, Architecture, Security, Infrastructure, and Operations teams, you will help shape and deliver the technology roadmap for the service. Operating within a product-aligned engineering model, you will contribute to the strategic development, implementation, lifecycle management, and continuous improvement of product and service capabilities consumed across the enterprise.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
- Design, engineer, implement and continually enhance enterprise backup, recovery, cyber recovery, and data protection services aligned to enterprise architecture, cyber resilience objectives, and regulatory requirements.
- Own the technical lifecycle of products, including enhancements, feature adoption and lifecycle planning.
- Develop and maintain automation capabilities, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and reusable engineering patterns to improve consistency, efficiency, and scalability.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and product capabilities to strengthen cyber recovery, immutability, ransomware resilience, and service automation.
- Partner with Architecture, Security, Infrastructure, and application teams to embed backup and data protection requirements into new platform and service designs.
- Update and maintain engineering standards, design principles, reference architectures, and guidelines for technologies.
- Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives including cloud transformation, datacentre migration, platform modernisation, and resilience improvement programmes.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, implementation standards, operational readiness requirements, and knowledge transfer materials to support sustainable service delivery.
- Perform proof-of-concept activities, engineering validation, resilience testing, and recovery testing to ensure solutions meet functional and operational requirements.
- Work with product stakeholders to help shape priorities, refine technical requirements, and contribute to the engineering backlog for the service.
- Monitor vendor roadmaps, industry trends, and emerging technologies to find opportunities for service optimisation and modernisation.
- Provide expert technical support for complex issues, major incidents, and problem management activities, driving sustainable engineering outcomes.
- Collaborate with Service Management, Risk, Compliance, and Security teams to ensure engineered solutions align with governance, control, and service standards.
- Drive continuous improvement across the service, with a focus on automation, standardisation, observability, and reducing manual operational effort.
- Support strategic capacity planning, retention requirements, scalability considerations, and long-term service evolution in line with business demand.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING:
Required knowledge of:
- Rubrik CDM, Rubrik Security Cloud, Dell PowerProtect Data Manager and associated cyber recovery products
- Cyber resilience capabilities, ransomware recovery, and disaster recovery principles
- Backup and recovery architectures and technologies supporting virtualized, physical, database, and enterprise application workloads
- Good proficiency in Python, hands-on experience with CI/CD orchestration tools, and familiarity with API-driven integrations and endpoints.
- Observability, service telemetry, monitoring, and platform health management
- Information security principles, regulatory compliance requirements, and data governance frameworks
Added advantage:
- Exposure to enterprise primary storage technologies such as Pure Storage, Dell EMC, Hitachi Vantara, NetApp, or similar platforms
- Familiarity with Brocade and Cisco SAN networking technologies
- Broader understanding of storage infrastructure concepts that support enterprise backup and recovery services
Preferred experience:
- Experience engineering enterprise-scale backup and data protection platforms within large, complex, global organisations
- Experience working within a product-based, platform engineering operating model
- Solid skills in contribution to solution design, automation, engineering, and analytical problem-solving skills
- Experience building scalable, automated, and customer-oriented infrastructure platforms
- Collaboration and participant management skills across engineering, architecture, security, and operations teams
- Ability to influence technical direction and contribute to strategic technology outcomes
- Relevant certifications in backup, cloud, storage, automation, or data protection technologies would be advantageous
