A Plant Doctor / Medical Officer in a manufacturing plant is responsible for safeguarding employee health, managing occupational health services, ensuring statutory compliance, and responding to medical emergencies. The role is critical in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace while minimizing work-related illnesses and injuries.
Job Purpose
To provide comprehensive occupational health services, emergency medical care, preventive healthcare, and ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities1. Occupational Health Management
- Conduct pre-employment, periodic, and exit medical examinations.
- Assess employee fitness for specific job roles.
- Monitor employees exposed to occupational hazards such as chemicals, dust, noise, heat, and hazardous substances.
- Identify and prevent occupational diseases.
2. Emergency Medical Care
- Provide immediate treatment for workplace injuries and medical emergencies.
- Stabilize patients and coordinate referrals to hospitals when required.
- Ensure 24/7 emergency medical preparedness (where applicable).
3. Preventive Healthcare
- Organize regular health check-up camps.
- Conduct vaccination and immunization programs.
- Promote employee wellness through health awareness sessions.
- Counsel employees on lifestyle diseases and preventive healthcare.
4. Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with the applicable Factories Act, Occupational Safety regulations, and local health laws.
- Maintain statutory medical records and confidential health records.
- Assist during inspections by regulatory authorities.
5. Health Surveillance
- Monitor trends in occupational illnesses and workplace injuries.
- Recommend preventive measures based on medical findings.
- Coordinate with EHS to reduce workplace health risks.
6. Infection Control
- Develop protocols for communicable disease prevention.
- Manage health emergencies such as outbreaks or pandemics.
- Ensure hygiene standards within the occupational health centre.
7. Medical Centre Administration
- Supervise nursing staff and paramedics.
- Maintain medical equipment, emergency medicines, and first-aid kits.
- Ensure adequate stock of medicines and medical consumables.
8. Safety Collaboration
- Participate in safety committee meetings.
- Investigate incidents involving injuries or health-related issues.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions.
9. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare monthly reports on medical cases, absenteeism, occupational illnesses, and health surveillance.
- Maintain confidential medical records.
- Analyze health trends and recommend improvements.
Qualification
- MBBS from a recognized medical college.
- Registration with the respective Medical Council.
- AFIH (Associate Fellow of Industrial Health) or Diploma in Industrial Health is preferred.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is desirable.
Experience
- 3–8 years of experience in occupational health, industrial medicine, manufacturing, chemical, food processing, oil & gas, or heavy engineering industries.
- Experience in handling workplace emergencies and occupational health programs.
Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
