We need an Engineering Manager who is as comfortable in a Jira board as they are in a pull request. This role combines hands-on technical contribution with the program management muscle to keep multiple teams moving in sync — unblocking engineers, owning delivery commitments, and making sure cross-team initiatives actually land.
At this stage of Invisia's growth, the EM is not just a people manager — they are a force multiplier. You will act as a Technical Program Engineer, breaking down complex cross-functional work into clear ownership and timelines. You will know when to write code yourself and when to step back and clear the path for your team.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineering Delivery
– Own sprint planning end-to-end — from backlog refinement to sprint retrospectives; make sure the team is working on the right things in the right order
– Contribute code directly on high-priority or complex features, especially where your technical judgment is needed to unblock the team
– Make architecture and technology trade-offs at the sprint level; escalate to the VP Tech when system-level decisions are required
– Enforce code review quality and a culture of craftsmanship without creating bottlenecks
Technical Program Management
– Break down large cross-team initiatives into clearly owned workstreams with dependencies mapped and tracked
– Proactively identify blockers — technical, organisational, or resource-related — and resolve them before they impact delivery
– Own delivery commitments to stakeholders; communicate status clearly and early when timelines are at risk
– Maintain a running view of team capacity, technical debt load, and roadmap risk
People & Team Development
– Run regular 1:1s with engineers; understand their growth goals and create opportunities to stretch them
– Conduct performance reviews and provide honest, actionable feedback
– Identify gaps in the team's skills and work with VP Tech to address through hiring or development
– Create an environment where engineers feel ownership and accountability for their work
MUST-HAVE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
– 8+ years of software engineering experience; you are still a credible technical contributor, not just a coordinator
– 2+ years of people management or a deep Technical Program Engineer background managing large, cross-team initiatives
– Strong command of agile delivery practices and the metrics that matter — cycle time, throughput, escaped defects, deployment frequency
– Excellent communication skills: you can explain a complex technical trade-off to a non-technical stakeholder and make it stick
– Experience running sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives for teams of 5–15 engineers
NICE-TO-HAVE
– Experience managing multiple squads simultaneously (2+ teams)
– Exposure to scaling an engineering org from early-stage to 20–30+ engineers
– Familiarity with SaaS product development cycles and release cadences
