The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the Quality Assurance and Quality Control functions to ensure products meet customer requirements, regulatory standards, and company quality objectives. The role involves driving quality excellence, customer satisfaction, supplier quality improvement, and compliance with IATF 16949 and other applicable standards.
Key Responsibilities Quality Management System (QMS)
- Ensure effective implementation and maintenance of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and customer-specific requirements.
- Lead internal audits, customer audits, and third-party certification audits.
- Monitor QMS effectiveness and drive continual improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with quality policies, procedures, and standards.
Customer Quality Management
- Act as the primary contact for customer quality issues and complaints.
- Lead customer complaint investigations and ensure timely closure through 8D methodology.
- Monitor customer PPM performance and implement improvement plans.
- Support customer visits, audits, and new project quality requirements.
Process & Product Quality
- Establish quality control plans and inspection standards.
- Monitor in-process quality and final product quality performance.
- Drive reduction of rejection, rework, scrap, and warranty claims.
- Ensure effective implementation of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, and MSA.
Supplier Quality Management
- Develop supplier quality improvement programs.
- Conduct supplier audits and performance evaluations.
- Ensure timely resolution of supplier quality issues.
- Monitor supplier PPM and supplier development activities.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead Root Cause Analysis using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone Diagram, PDCA, and Kaizen methodologies.
- Drive Zero Defect and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) reduction initiatives.
- Implement quality improvement projects across manufacturing processes.
- Promote a quality-focused culture throughout the organization.
Team Management
- Lead and develop the Quality team, including Quality Engineers and Inspectors.
- Conduct competency development and training programs.
- Establish departmental objectives and monitor team performance.
- Foster teamwork and cross-functional collaboration.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Customer PPM achievement.
- Internal rejection and rework reduction.
- Supplier PPM improvement.
- Audit performance and compliance.
- Corrective Action Closure effectiveness.
- First Pass Yield (FPY) improvement.
- Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) reduction.

Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and Automotive Core Tools.
- Expertise in APQP, PPAP, SPC, MSA, FMEA, and Control Plans.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of metallurgical and manufacturing processes.
- Customer handling and supplier development experience.
- Leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and MS Office applications.
Qualification & Experience
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Automobile, Metallurgy, or related discipline.
- Minimum 10–15 years of experience in Quality Management within the automotive manufacturing industry.
- At least 3–5 years of experience in a managerial role.
- Experience in OEM and Tier-1 customer handling preferred.

- Authority to stop production or dispatch in case of critical quality issues.
- Authority to approve quality documentation and quality release.
- Authority to escalate customer and supplier quality concerns to management.
- Authority to initiate corrective and preventive actions across departments.
