Position: Casualty Medical Officer (CMO)
Department: Emergency / Casualty
Reports To: Medical Superintendent
Job Summary
The Casualty Medical Officer (CMO) is responsible for providing immediate medical assessment, emergency treatment, and stabilization of patients presenting to the Emergency Department. The CMO ensures timely, safe, and evidence-based patient care while coordinating with consultants and multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and stabilize emergency and trauma patients.
- Provide immediate life-saving treatment and emergency procedures.
- Manage medico-legal cases (MLC) and maintain accurate documentation.
- Coordinate referrals, admissions, transfers, and consultant calls.
- Monitor critically ill patients until specialist care is available.
- Ensure compliance with NABH, NMC, hospital policies, and infection control protocols.
- Maintain complete and timely medical records.
- Participate in emergency drills, disaster management, and code blue responses.
- Supervise junior doctors and coordinate with nursing and allied health staff.
- Ensure high standards of patient safety and quality care.
Qualifications
- MBBS from an NMC-recognized institution.
- Valid State Medical Council Registration.
- ACLS/BLS certification preferred.
- Experience in Emergency Medicine/Casualty is preferred.
Skills Required
- Strong clinical decision-making and emergency management skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork.
- Ability to work under pressure and in rotating shifts.
- Knowledge of medico-legal documentation and emergency protocols.
Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
- On-call duties as per hospital requirements.
