Job Summary
The Intensivist is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care to critically ill patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), and other critical care areas of the hospital. The role involves assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, advanced life support management, multidisciplinary coordination, and continuous monitoring of patients with life-threatening conditions. The Intensivist ensures evidence-based clinical care, patient safety, quality improvement, and adherence to hospital protocols while collaborating closely with specialists, nursing staff, and allied healthcare professionals.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage critically ill patients admitted to the ICU, HDU, and emergency critical care areas.
- Provide comprehensive care for patients with respiratory failure, septic shock, multi-organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), trauma, poisoning, post-operative complications, and other life-threatening conditions.
- Lead and coordinate advanced life support interventions, including ACLS, BLS, and resuscitation protocols.
- Manage mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation (NIV), oxygen therapy, and airway emergencies.
- Perform critical care procedures such as:
- Endotracheal intubation
- Central venous catheter insertion
- Arterial line placement
- Chest tube insertion
- Tracheostomy care
- Hemodynamic monitoring
- Interpret laboratory investigations, arterial blood gases (ABG), imaging studies, ECGs, and bedside diagnostic findings.
- Monitor and manage patients requiring vasopressor support, renal replacement therapy, and invasive monitoring.
- Participate in daily multidisciplinary ICU rounds and treatment planning.
- Ensure timely escalation and referral to relevant specialties when required.
Patient Care & Safety
- Maintain high standards of patient safety, infection prevention, and quality care.
- Ensure compliance with ICU protocols, sepsis bundles, ventilator bundles, and patient safety initiatives.
- Monitor and reduce hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP), CLABSI, and CAUTI rates.
- Ensure accurate documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
- Communicate effectively with patients' families regarding prognosis, treatment options, and end-of-life care decisions.
- Participate in ethical decision-making and palliative care discussions when appropriate.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
- Work closely with surgeons, physicians, anesthesiologists, emergency medicine specialists, oncologists, pulmonologists, nephrologists, and other consultants.
- Collaborate with nursing teams, respiratory therapists, physiotherapists, dietitians, pharmacists, and support staff to optimize patient outcomes.
- Provide clinical guidance and supervision to resident doctors, fellows, and junior medical staff.
Quality Assurance & Administration
- Participate in ICU quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
- Ensure adherence to hospital accreditation standards, infection control policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in developing and updating ICU protocols, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Participate in mortality and morbidity reviews and root cause analyses.
- Support disaster preparedness, mass casualty response, and emergency management programs.
Academic & Research Responsibilities
- Participate in continuing medical education (CME) activities, conferences, workshops, and training programs.
- Contribute to clinical research, publications, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
- Conduct educational sessions and bedside teaching for medical and nursing staff.
- Stay updated with advances in critical care medicine and emerging treatment modalities.
QualificationsEducation
- MBBS from a recognized medical institution.
- MD/DNB in General Medicine, Anesthesiology, Pulmonary Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or equivalent.
- DM/DNB/Fellowship in Critical Care Medicine preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 1 to 3 years of post-qualification experience in Critical Care Medicine within a multispecialty, tertiary care, or specialty hospital.
- Prior experience managing medical, surgical, trauma, oncology, transplant, or high-acuity ICU patients preferred.
- Experience in advanced ventilator management and invasive critical care procedures.

Pay: ₹150,000.00 - ₹200,000.00 per month
