The Highways Engineer will be responsible for planning, design, execution, and supervision of road and highway projects. The role involves coordination with consultants, contractors, and government authorities to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and review road & highway projects including alignments, pavements, junctions, and drainage systems
- Prepare and verify drawings, BOQs, estimates, and tender documents
- Supervise site execution, ensuring adherence to approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards
- Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and government agencies (PWD / NHAI / State Highways)
- Conduct material inspections, quality checks, and test reports
- Monitor project schedules, progress, and cost control
- Ensure compliance with IRC, MoRTH, IS codes, and safety regulations
- Handle traffic management plans and road safety measures
- Review and certify RA bills, measurements, and final bills
- Identify technical issues and provide effective engineering solutions
- Prepare progress reports, DPRs, and documentation
Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of pavement design (Flexible & Rigid)
- Experience in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MX Road
- Understanding of surveying, soil investigation, and testing
- Familiarity with quality control procedures for road works
- Knowledge of project planning tools (MS Project / Primavera – preferred)
Qualifications
- B.E / B.Tech in Civil Engineering (M.E preferred but not mandatory)
- Relevant certifications in highway or transportation engineering are an advantage
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in road/highway projects
- Experience up to 10 years in execution, design, or project management
- Exposure to bituminous and concrete road projects
