## About the Role
We are a fast-moving fashion label developing and producing garments within short timelines. We are looking for a highly organised and proactive *Fashion Designer cum Merchandiser* who can coordinate effectively between buyers, vendors, suppliers and the internal production team.
The candidate should have a good understanding of garment design and production, strong communication skills, and the ability to maintain accurate Excel trackers and workflow sheets.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and taking responsibility for moving styles from initial concept to final production.
## Key Responsibilities
### Design and Product Development
* Develop garment designs based on buyer briefs, references and market trends.
* Prepare design presentations, colour combinations, mood boards and basic specification sheets.
* Coordinate fabric, embroidery, trims, prints, embellishments and sample development.
* Clearly communicate design details to pattern masters, sampling teams and vendors.
* Make design corrections based on buyer and management feedback.
* Maintain an organised record of designs, samples, fabrics, colours and approvals.
### Merchandising and Buyer Coordination
* Communicate professionally with buyers through email, WhatsApp and online meetings.
* Understand buyer requirements and convert them into clear instructions for the production and sampling teams.
* Share sample updates, photographs, costing details and production progress with buyers.
* Maintain records of buyer comments, approvals and pending decisions.
* Follow up with buyers for approvals required to keep production on schedule.
### Vendor and Production Coordination
* Liaise with fabric, embroidery, printing, dyeing, stitching, trims and packaging vendors.
* Obtain quotations, samples and delivery commitments from vendors.
* Follow up continuously to ensure materials and samples are received on time.
* Coordinate with sampling, sourcing, production and quality-control teams.
* Track every style from design development through sampling, approval, production and dispatch.
* Identify delays at an early stage and immediately escalate them to management.
* Help ensure that approved quality, colour, workmanship and measurements are maintained.
### Excel and Workflow Management
* Create and maintain Excel trackers for:
* Style development
* Sample status
* Fabric and trim requirements
* Buyer approvals
* Vendor follow-ups
* Production status
* Delivery schedules
* Costing and order details
* Update all trackers daily and share clear status reports with management.
* Use formulas, filters, sorting, conditional formatting and basic lookup functions.
* Ensure that information is accurate and easily understandable by all departments.
## Required Skills
* Qualification in Fashion Design, Apparel Merchandising or a related field.
* 1–3 years of experience in a fashion label, garment factory, export house or buying office.
* Good understanding of garment construction, fabrics, trims, colours and production processes.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.
* Ability to coordinate with multiple vendors and departments simultaneously.
* Strong follow-up, organisation and time-management skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet short development and production timelines.
* Basic knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop or CorelDRAW will be an advantage.
* Fluency in English and Hindi is required. Knowledge of Bengali will be an advantage.
## Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is practical, energetic and execution-oriented. They should not only be creative but also comfortable following up with vendors, maintaining trackers, solving production issues and communicating clearly with buyers.
The person must be able to take ownership of assigned styles and ensure that nothing is delayed because of missed communication or incomplete follow-up.
