- A Network Support Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing an organization's IT and network infrastructure. They ensure seamless daily operations, handle user tickets, resolve connectivity outages, and maintain network security, operating as the vital bridge between hardware systems and end-users.
- Key Responsibilities
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve hardware and software faults, packet loss, or latency issues
- Network Administration: Configure, install, and manage routing, switching, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Monitoring: Ensure 24/7 network uptime using monitoring tools like Wireshark or SolarWinds.
- Security & Access: Manage VPNs, implement security protocols, and administer access controls (e.g., Active Directory).
- Documentation: Keep network topology diagrams, process workflows, and incident reports up to date.
- WtaVendor & Escalation Management: Coordinate with internet service providers (ISPs) or third-party vendors for major outages and escalations.
- Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Core Technologies: Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LAN/WAN, and routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF).
- Hardware Expertise: Hands-on experience with equipment from leading vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, HP, Palo Alto).
- Certifications: Preferred credentials include CCNA, CCNP, or CompTIA Network+.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving, crisp communication for user support, and ability to manage 24/7 rotational shifts in critical environments.
