Planning Manager – BESS Projects
Employment Type: Full-time

About the Role
We are hiring an experienced Planning Manager – BESS Projects to lead project planning, scheduling, resource allocation and supply-chain coordination for large-scale Battery Energy Storage System projects.
The selected candidate will develop and manage integrated project schedules covering design, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, testing, commissioning and grid interconnection. The role will supervise the Procurement Manager and collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations and Project Execution teams.
The project portfolio may include BESS systems ranging from 50 MWh to multi-GWh capacity.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain detailed master project schedules using MS Project, Primavera or equivalent planning tools.
- Create project timelines covering engineering, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and grid interconnection.
- Define project milestones, critical paths, dependencies, float and schedule contingencies.
- Forecast project-completion timelines with a high degree of accuracy.
- Plan and allocate resources across engineering, procurement, manufacturing and field-commissioning activities.
- Resolve resource conflicts and balance workloads across multiple simultaneous projects.
- Develop procurement timelines for battery cells, power electronics, transformers, mechanical systems and balance-of-system components.
- Coordinate RFQ release dates, supplier evaluations, purchase-order timelines and material-delivery schedules.
- Integrate procurement lead times and supplier dependencies into the project’s critical path.
- Identify schedule risks, including long-lead items, supplier delays, design changes, manufacturing bottlenecks and commissioning dependencies.
- Prepare mitigation plans and escalate critical schedule risks to senior management.
- Track project progress against approved baseline schedules.
- Monitor design gates, procurement milestones, manufacturing readiness and commissioning activities.
- Prepare monthly project-status reports, schedule variance analysis and management dashboards.
- Conduct weekly planning meetings with Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing and Operations teams.
- Evaluate cost-versus-schedule trade-offs, including expedited procurement and alternate sourcing options.
- Assess the impact of design changes on project timelines and supply-chain commitments.
- Supervise the Procurement Manager, set objectives, review progress and address supplier-performance issues.
- Maintain a consolidated portfolio schedule and identify future capacity, hiring or outsourcing requirements.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- 6–8 years of experience in project planning, project management, project controls or operations.
- Minimum 3 years of planning experience in a manufacturing, EPC, construction, power or heavy-engineering environment.
- Demonstrated experience delivering complex projects within approved timelines and budgets.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Project, Primavera P6 or equivalent scheduling software.
- Experience managing multi-phase project schedules containing 100 or more activities.
- Strong knowledge of Gantt charts, critical-path analysis, resource levelling, schedule baselines and earned-value management.
- Understanding of procurement cycles, vendor lead times, supplier dependencies and supply-chain risks.
- Experience incorporating procurement activities into integrated project schedules.
- Practical understanding of design–procurement–manufacturing–commissioning workflows.
- Strong cross-functional coordination skills across Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing and Operations.
- Experience preparing schedule-variance reports, forecasts, risk registers and executive-level project updates.
- Ability to proactively identify project risks and develop practical mitigation plans.
Preferred Candidate Profile
- Experience in BESS, renewable energy, power systems, EPC, industrial manufacturing or infrastructure projects.
- Exposure to battery systems, transformers, power electronics or other long-lead electrical equipment.
- Experience managing multiple projects through a portfolio-level planning framework.
- Knowledge of Earned Value Management and project-controls reporting.
- Experience supervising procurement, project-control or supply-chain professionals.
- PMP, PRINCE2 or recognised project-management certification.
- Ability to negotiate project timelines and communicate schedule implications to clients and senior management.
