About the Role: We are looking for a hardworking, responsible, and compassionate Housekeeping Staff member to help maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation across the shelter premises. The role is extremely important in ensuring a safe and healthy environment for rescued animals, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
This position involves regular cleaning of animal areas, hospital spaces, kennels, common areas, and assisting in maintaining overall shelter hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities
Shelter Cleaning & Maintenance
- Clean kennels, cages, isolation wards, hospital rooms, and animal enclosures daily.
- Sweep, mop, wash, and disinfect shelter premises regularly.
- Dispose of animal waste, garbage, biomedical waste, and other waste materials safely as per guidelines.
- Wash feeding bowls, water containers, bedding, blankets, and cleaning equipment.
- Ensure washrooms and staff common areas remain clean and hygienic.
Infection Control & Hygiene
- Follow strict sanitation and disinfection protocols.
- Use cleaning chemicals and disinfectants safely and responsibly.
- Help prevent spread of infections and diseases among animals.
- Inform supervisors immediately about unhygienic conditions or maintenance issues.
Laundry & Utility Work
- Wash and dry animal bedding, towels, and hospital linens.
- Organize housekeeping supplies and cleaning tools properly.
- Refill cleaning materials and report shortages to management.
General Support
- Support shelter staff during deep cleaning drives or emergency situations.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness during visitors, donors, or inspections.
- Help maintain a pleasant and organized shelter environment.
Requirements
- Physically fit and comfortable working in an animal shelter environment.
- Comfortable handling cleaning tasks involving animal waste and odors.
- Basic understanding of cleanliness and hygiene practices.
- Ability to follow instructions and work in a team.
- Responsible, punctual, and disciplined.
- Compassionate toward animals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior housekeeping or sanitation experience preferred.
- Experience working in hospitals, shelters, hostels, or similar facilities is an added advantage.
- Basic understanding of infection control is beneficial.
Working Conditions
- 6 working days per week.
- Work may involve standing for long hours, lifting supplies, and working around animals.
- Candidate should be comfortable around injured, sick, or rescued animals.
