Key Responsibilities of an ICU Staff Nurse
- Patient Assessment & Monitoring: Perform regular, detailed head-to-toe assessments, continuous monitoring of vitals (ECG, SPO2, Blood Pressure), and interpretation of diagnostic reports.
- Critical Care & Procedures: Manage advanced airway, ventilators, central lines, arterial lines, and urinary catheters.
- Medication Management: Prepare, administer, and calculate dosages for high-alert medications and titrate intravenous fluids.
- Procedures Assistance: Support physicians in inserting central lines, femoral lines, and conducting intubations.
- Emergency Response: Act instantly in life-saving situations, such as cardiac arrests (CPR) and managing sudden changes in patient condition.
- Documentation: Maintain meticulous records of patient care, interventions, and outcomes.
- Infection Control: Adhere strictly to sterile techniques and infection control protocols to prevent VAP (Ventilator-associated pneumonia) and CLABSI (Central line-associated bloodstream infection).
- Family Care: Communicate with patients' families regarding care plans and provide emotional support.
