The Purchase Officer manages the end-to-end procurement process for construction materials (e.g., concrete, steel, lumber, electrical components), tools, and heavy machinery. They ensure that all items are purchased at the best possible price, meet the project's quality standards, and arrive at the site exactly when needed.
Key Responsibilities1. Sourcing & Supplier Management
Identify, vet, and build relationships with reliable suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors.
Maintain an updated database of approved vendors with tracking metrics for reliability, quality, and speed.
Continuously research the market for new materials, technologies, and alternative suppliers to optimize costs.
2. Negotiation & Cost Control
Prepare and issue Requests for Quotation (RFQs) and Requests for Proposal (RFPs) to multiple vendors.
Evaluate supplier bids and negotiate prices, credit terms, delivery schedules, and contracts to maximize value.
Monitor market trends to anticipate price fluctuations for volatile commodities like steel or copper.
3. Order Processing & Logistics Coordination
Review material requisitions from project managers and site engineers to verify specifications.
Issue formal Purchase Orders (POs) and track them through to delivery.
Coordinate with logistics teams and site supervisors to schedule deliveries, ensuring materials arrive without disrupting site schedules or overcrowding storage space.
4. Quality Control & Inventory Management
Collaborate with site engineers and quality inspectors to ensure delivered materials match ordered specifications and meet local building codes.
Manage dispute resolutions regarding damaged goods, incorrect shipments, or billing discrepancies.
Monitor inventory levels across active project sites to reduce waste and prevent over-purchasing.
Required Skills & QualificationsTechnical & Professional Experience
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Industry Experience: Typically requires 2–5 years of procurement experience specifically within the construction or real estate sectors. Familiarity with construction blueprints, material grades, and technical specs is highly preferred.
Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month
