Job Summary
The DGM – Central Purchase (BESS – Commodity CAPEX) will be responsible for strategic sourcing, procurement planning, vendor development, commercial negotiations, and supply chain management for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. The role involves handling procurement of CAPEX commodities including electrical, mechanical, sheet metal, fabricated items, battery-related components, enclosures, and project materials while ensuring cost optimization, quality compliance, and timely delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Strategic Sourcing
- Manage end-to-end procurement activities for BESS CAPEX projects.
- Develop procurement strategies for commodity categories including:
- Sheet metal & fabricated components
- Electrical & mechanical commodities
- Battery enclosures and structures
- Cables, busbars, switchgear, and auxiliary systems
- EPC and project-based materials
- Prepare RFQs, techno-commercial comparisons, and procurement proposals.
- Drive strategic sourcing initiatives for cost reduction and supplier consolidation.
- Finalize rate contracts and long-term procurement agreements.
Vendor Management
- Identify, evaluate, and develop new vendors for BESS commodities.
- Conduct supplier assessments, audits, and performance reviews.
- Ensure vendor compliance with quality, delivery, ESG, and contractual requirements.
- Maintain strong relationships with key OEMs and suppliers.
Commercial & Contract Management
- Lead techno-commercial negotiations with suppliers and contractors.
- Review and finalize purchase contracts, payment terms, LD clauses, warranties, and delivery schedules.
- Monitor procurement budgets and achieve cost-saving targets.
- Ensure adherence to company procurement policies and compliance standards.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate with engineering, projects, planning, QA/QC, and finance teams.
- Support project execution through timely procurement and material availability.
- Track procurement schedules aligned with project milestones.
- Resolve supply chain bottlenecks and expedite critical materials.
Inventory & Supply Chain Optimization
- Optimize inventory levels and procurement lead times.
- Monitor market trends, commodity pricing, and supply risks.
- Implement ERP/MRP-based procurement tracking and reporting systems.
Team Management
- Lead and mentor procurement teams across commodity categories.
- Establish KPIs for procurement efficiency and vendor performance.
- Drive process improvement and digitization initiatives within procurement operations.
Desired Candidate Profile
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Electrical / Production Engineering.
- MBA / PGDM in Supply Chain or Operations preferred.
Experience
- 12–18 years of experience in procurement / strategic sourcing.
- Minimum 5+ years in leadership role handling CAPEX procurement.
- Experience in BESS, renewable energy, EPC, power, electrical manufacturing, or energy storage industry preferred.
- Strong exposure to sheet metal, fabricated components, and project procurement.
