Job Description :
An Automobile Service Technician performs maintenance and repairs on cars and light trucks by diagnosing issues with both mechanical and electronic systems, using diagnostic equipment to identify problems, and then performing necessary fixes like oil changes, brake replacements, and system repairs. Key duties include conducting safety inspections, creating accurate repair records, maintaining a clean workspace, and explaining repairs to customers. This role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, knowledge of automotive systems, and the ability to use computerized diagnostic tools.
Key Responsibilities :
- Diagnosis: Use computerized diagnostic equipment to identify the root causes of vehicle problems.
- Maintenance: Perform routine tasks such as oil changes, tire rotations, fluid level checks, and filter replacements.
- Repair: Replace worn or faulty parts like brake pads, sensors, and engine components.
- Inspections: Conduct vehicle inspections for safety and emissions compliance.
- Testing: Take vehicles for test drives to verify that repairs are effective and the vehicle is sound.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and legible records of services and repairs for both the customer and company.
- Customer Communication: Explain diagnostic findings and repair recommendations to clients.
- Workplace Maintenance: Keep the work environment and shop equipment clean and in good condition.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Expertise: Knowledge of traditional mechanical systems, as well as modern electronic and computer-controlled systems in vehicles.
- Diagnostic Skills: Proficient use of computerized diagnostic tools and the ability to interpret technical manuals.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot issues and plan efficient work procedures.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to inspecting vehicles and ensuring all work is performed correctly.
- Physical Dexterity: Good manual coordination for working with tools and components.
- Computer Skills: Familiarity with relevant software for diagnostics, record-keeping, and potentially fleet management systems.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate technical information clearly to customers and colleagues.
