Role Overview
We are looking for a DFM/DFMA Engineer to perform manufacturing feasibility, assembly optimization, tooling feasibility and tolerance/GD&T reviews for automotive products.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform DFM/DFA analysis on 3D CAD models during Concept, Detailed Design and Pre-Production phases.
- Evaluate draft angles, wall thickness, parting lines, ribs, undercuts, bend radii, draw depths and weld flanges across relevant manufacturing processes.
- Assess manual and automated assembly feasibility, operator hand clearance, tool access and ergonomics.
- Drive part-count reduction, modularization, fastener standardization, snap-fit integration and Poka-Yoke design.
- Review 2D drawings and 3D PMI for GD&T compliance and perform 1D/2D/3D tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Identify variation risks impacting fit, flush, gap and functional assembly tolerances.
- Coordinate with die designers, mold toolmakers, weld fixture designers and automation engineers to validate tooling and clamping feasibility.
- Feed manufacturing failure modes into DFMEA/PFMEA and prepare DFM scorecards, CAD mark-ups and issue logs.
- Participate in cross-functional design reviews with Product Development, Manufacturing Engineering and Tier-1 suppliers.
Mandatory Technical Skills
- Strong DFM/DFMA and automotive manufacturing/process engineering experience.
- Working knowledge of GD&T / ASME Y14.5 and tolerance stack-up.
- Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6, Siemens NX, Creo or SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes including stamping, molding, casting and sheet metal.
- Working knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA, APQP/PPAP and Six Sigma.
- Strong analytical and cross-functional communication skills.
Preferred Skills
- 3DCS, VSA, VisMockup, DFMPro, Moldflow or AutoForm.
- Tooling feasibility and manufacturing process engineering experience.
- Knowledge of Ford Engineering Standards (W-STD).
- Experience with Poka-Yoke and assembly optimization.
Candidate Profile
DFM/DFMA Engineer with 3–5+ years of automotive experience, strong manufacturing feasibility and GD&T fundamentals and the ability to communicate data-driven manufacturability decisions.
