Job Summary
The Cath Lab Staff Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. The nurse assists cardiologists during procedures, monitors patients before, during, and after interventions, and ensures adherence to infection control and patient safety standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care
- Prepare patients for cardiac catheterization and related procedures.
- Assess patient condition and obtain pre-procedure checklists and consents.
- Monitor vital signs, ECG, oxygen saturation, and hemodynamic status.
- Provide pre- and post-procedure nursing care.
Procedure Assistance
- Assist cardiologists during angiography, angioplasty, pacemaker insertion, and other cardiac procedures.
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields and instruments.
- Handle emergency situations during procedures such as cardiac arrest or arrhythmias.
- Administer medications, contrast agents, and IV fluids as prescribed.
Equipment Handling
- Operate and maintain Cath Lab equipment including monitors, defibrillators, injectors, and crash carts.
- Ensure availability and sterility of catheters, stents, guidewires, and consumables.
- Follow radiation safety protocols.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate patient records, procedure notes, medication charts, and nursing documentation.
- Record patient observations during and after procedures.
Infection Control & Safety
- Adhere to infection prevention and control protocols.
- Ensure biomedical waste segregation and disposal as per policy.
- Maintain patient safety and radiation protection standards.
Coordination
- Coordinate with cardiologists, technicians, anesthetists, and ICU teams.
- Participate in emergency code responses and shift handovers.
Required Qualifications
- GNM / B.Sc Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc Nursing
- Valid Nursing Registration Certificate
- Experience in Cath Lab/Cardiac Care preferred

- Knowledge of cardiac procedures and emergency care
- ECG interpretation basics
- Critical care and emergency response skills

Preferred Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
