Job Summary
The Senior Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine and specialized laboratory investigations, ensuring quality and accuracy of test results, maintaining compliance with NABL standards, supervising laboratory technicians, and supporting continuous quality improvement activities.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory investigations accurately.
- Verify specimen identification, acceptability, and processing.
- Operate automated laboratory analyzers efficiently.
- Validate test results before reporting to the Pathologist.
- Process emergency (STAT) samples within defined TAT.
- Perform phlebotomy whenever required.
- Ensure proper sample storage and disposal as per biomedical waste guidelines.
NABL & Quality Management
- Follow all NABL policies, SOPs, and Quality Manual requirements.
- Maintain Internal Quality Control (IQC) records.
- Participate in External Quality Assurance Scheme (EQAS/PT).
- Maintain equipment calibration and preventive maintenance records.
- Report non-conformities and assist in CAPA implementation.
- Participate in Internal Audits and Management Review Meetings.
- Ensure complete documentation as per NABL requirements.
- Maintain traceability of samples, reagents, and reports.
Equipment Management
- Daily start-up and shutdown of analyzers.
- Calibration and quality control of laboratory equipment.
- Troubleshoot minor instrument issues.
- Coordinate with service engineers for preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Maintain equipment logbooks.
Documentation
- Maintain:
- Temperature records
- Maintenance logs
- Calibration records
- IQC & EQAS records
- Reagent inventory
- Sample rejection register
- Critical value documentation
- Incident reports
- TAT monitoring records
Supervision
- Supervise Laboratory Technicians and Phlebotomists.
- Train new employees on SOPs and laboratory practices.
- Monitor staff competency assessments.
- Allocate daily laboratory work.
- Ensure discipline and adherence to laboratory protocols.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow Biosafety Guidelines.
- Use PPE appropriately.
- Ensure infection prevention practices.
- Ensure Biomedical Waste segregation as per regulations.
- Report accidents, spills, or needle-stick injuries immediately.
Inventory Management
- Monitor stock of reagents and consumables.
- Verify expiry dates and storage conditions.
- Raise purchase requisitions.
- Minimize reagent wastage.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Quality Control compliance ≥95%
- Zero major NABL non-conformities
- Turnaround Time (TAT) compliance ≥95%
- Sample rejection rate within target limits
- Equipment uptime ≥98%
- Successful completion of staff competency assessments
- Timely completion of calibration and maintenance schedules
- Accurate documentation and audit readiness
Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts including night duties.
- Emergency and on-call duties as required.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹33,964.39 per month
