Hiring Production Engineer – Machining Workshop
The Production Engineer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring machining operations to achieve production targets while maintaining quality, productivity, cost, and delivery requirements.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Production Planning & Execution
- Execute daily, weekly, and monthly production plans.
- Ensure optimum utilization of CNC machines, manpower, and resources.
- Monitor production schedules and achieve delivery commitments.
- Coordinate with planning, stores, quality, and maintenance departments.
Shop Floor Management
- Supervise CNC turning, VMC, milling, drilling, and related machining operations.
- Monitor machine loading and manpower allocation.
- Ensure smooth workflow and minimize bottlenecks.
- Conduct shift handovers and daily production reviews.
Productivity Improvement
- Monitor machine cycle times and production efficiency.
- Reduce setup and changeover times.
- Improve machine utilization and operator productivity.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen activities.
Quality Control
- Ensure components meet drawing specifications and customer requirements.
- Work closely with quality inspectors to address non-conformities.
- Monitor rejection, rework, and scrap levels.
- Implement corrective actions to prevent recurring defects.
Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for preventive maintenance activities.
- Report machine breakdowns promptly.
- Minimize production losses due to equipment downtime.
Inventory & Material Control
- Ensure availability of raw materials, cutting tools, inserts, and consumables.
- Monitor WIP (Work in Progress) and finished goods inventory.
- Coordinate with stores for material movement and availability.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce safety procedures and PPE compliance.
- Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and quality standards.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain production reports and machine utilization records.
- Track KPIs such as productivity, OEE, rejection rate, and downtime.
- Prepare shift-wise and monthly performance reports.
Required Technical Skills
Machining Knowledge
- CNC Turning operations.
- CNC Milling/VMC operations.
- Tooling and insert selection basics.
- Machine setup and process monitoring.
- Understanding of cutting parameters.
Drawing & Inspection
- Ability to read engineering drawings.
- Understanding of GD&T.
- Knowledge of measuring instruments:
- Vernier caliper
- Micrometer
- Bore gauge
- Height gauge
- Dial indicators
Production Management
- Production planning and scheduling.
- Capacity planning.
- Line balancing.
- OEE monitoring.
- Productivity analysis.
Quality Knowledge
- Root cause analysis.
- CAPA implementation.
- Basic SPC concepts.
- ISO 9001 awareness.
Software Skills
- Microsoft Excel.
- Basic knowledge of CAD drawings.
Soft Skills
- Leadership and team supervision.
- Shop-floor problem solving.
- Decision making under pressure.
- Communication with operators and supervisors.
- Time management.
- Strong follow-up and execution skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical or Production Engineering.
- 2–8 years of experience in CNC machining production.
- Experience managing machine operators and shop-floor activities.
- Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen.
