Role Overview
Valor PayTech is seeking a seasoned Director of Engineering to lead the organization’s technology and product strategy. This role will be responsible for driving product innovation, engineering excellence, platform scalability, customer experience, and business growth while leading high-performing engineering and product teams.
What We’re Looking For
This is a hands-on leadership role. We are looking for a leader who is, above all:
- Self-Starter — operates with autonomy and a strong bias for action; sets direction in ambiguity and owns outcomes end-to-end without waiting to be told.
- Highly Technical — maintains genuine technical depth; can go deep into architecture, design, and code, make and defend hard technical trade-offs, and lead from the front during critical incidents.
- Strategic — connects technology decisions to business outcomes, anticipates where the platform and market are heading, and invests accordingly.
- Great Administrator — runs the engineering organization with operational rigor — capacity planning, resource allocation, delivery governance, and metrics-driven accountability.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership
- Define and execute the overall technology vision, architecture roadmap, and engineering strategy.
- Lead the design, development, deployment, and maintenance of secure, scalable, and high-availability platforms.
- Drive platform modernization, automation, and operational excellence initiatives.
- Establish engineering best practices, governance frameworks, and software development standards.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineering teams.
FinTech Payments Leadership
- Lead product and technology initiatives across payments, merchant services, transaction processing, reconciliation, compliance, and financial platforms.
- Drive innovation in payment technologies, customer experience, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to applicable regulatory, security, governance, and compliance requirements across all technology platforms and business operations.
Delivery Operations Engineering Administration
- Own resource allocation and capacity planning across competing backlogs — product development, technical debt, information security, and infrastructure.
- Run portfolio and sprint planning, establish predictable delivery cadences, and manage throughput against committed roadmaps.
- Help define, lead and operate change, release, and governance processes (e.g., Change Advisory Board) to ensure controlled, auditable releases.
- Instrument delivery with metrics — track velocity, quality, and operational health, and drive accountability through data.
Leadership Stakeholder Management
- Build, mentor, and retain high-performing engineering teams.
- Partner with executive leadership to align technology and product initiatives with business goals.
- Present technology roadmaps and business outcomes to senior leadership.
