Job Summary
The OT Pharmacist is responsible for managing the procurement, storage, dispensing, and inventory of medications and consumables required in the Operation Theatre (OT). The role ensures the availability of essential drugs, maintains accurate records, supports safe medication practices, and complies with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the availability of all medications, anesthetic agents, emergency drugs, and surgical consumables required for OT procedures.
- Dispense medications accurately based on authorized prescriptions and operation schedules.
- Maintain adequate stock levels of OT drugs, intravenous fluids, and consumables.
- Monitor expiry dates, batch numbers, and storage conditions of medications and remove expired or damaged stock promptly.
- Maintain proper storage of temperature-sensitive medications in accordance with manufacturer and regulatory guidelines.
- Coordinate with anesthesiologists, surgeons, OT nurses, and the central pharmacy to ensure uninterrupted medication supply.
- Prepare and maintain emergency drug trays and crash carts used in the Operation Theatre.
- Maintain accurate records of drug dispensing, stock movement, controlled substances, and inventory.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly inventory checks and prepare stock reports.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, pharmacy regulations, biomedical waste management, and NABH standards.
- Assist in medication recalls, audits, and quality assurance activities.
- Participate in procurement planning and monitor medicine consumption trends.
- Report medication shortages, discrepancies, or adverse incidents to the Pharmacy Manager.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and medication records.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Chief Pharmacist or Hospital Administration.
Qualifications
- Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) or Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm).
- Valid registration with the State Pharmacy Council.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in hospital pharmacy, preferably in an Operation Theatre or critical care setting.
- Fresh graduates with hospital pharmacy training may also be considered.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of hospital pharmacy operations and medication management.
- Familiarity with anesthetic drugs, emergency medications, and OT consumables.
- Understanding of drug storage requirements and inventory control.
- Knowledge of pharmacy regulations and medication safety practices.
- Proficiency in Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and pharmacy management software.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in dispensing and documentation.
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
