Job Purpose
The Head of the Department of Computer Science is responsible for providing academic and administrative leadership to the department, ensuring effective teaching-learning practices, maintaining academic standards, mentoring faculty members and students, and promoting the overall growth and development of the department.
Job Responsibilities:
A. Academic Leadership
- Plan, organize, and monitor the academic activities of the Department of Computer Science.
- Ensure effective implementation of the prescribed curriculum and academic calendar.
- Prepare and monitor the departmental timetable, workload distribution, lesson plans, and teaching schedules.
- Conduct regular departmental meetings and review academic progress.
- Monitor students' attendance, academic performance, and overall progress.
- Develop strategies to improve students' results and learning outcomes.
- Organize remedial classes, bridge courses, tutorials, seminars, workshops, and guest lectures.
- Encourage innovative teaching methodologies, ICT-enabled teaching, and blended learning.
B. Faculty Management and Development
- Allocate subjects and academic responsibilities among faculty members.
- Monitor faculty performance and ensure timely completion of academic responsibilities.
- Encourage faculty members to pursue higher education, research, certifications, FDPs, seminars, workshops, and conferences.
- Promote collaborative research and publication activities.
- Mentor newly appointed faculty members and support their professional development.
C. Departmental Administration
- Maintain departmental records, files, registers, reports, and documentation.
- Prepare departmental academic plans, annual reports, and performance reports.
- Coordinate with the Principal and Management regarding departmental requirements and development activities.
- Identify requirements for laboratories, software, hardware, networking facilities, and other infrastructure.
- Ensure the proper utilization and maintenance of computer laboratories and departmental resources.
- Coordinate examination-related activities, including internal assessments, question paper preparation, valuation, and result analysis.
D. Student Development
- Provide academic guidance and mentoring to students.
- Encourage students to participate in coding competitions, hackathons, technical events, paper presentations, seminars, workshops, and project exhibitions.
- Facilitate internships, industrial visits, projects, and placement-oriented training.
- Strengthen students' technical, programming, communication, problem-solving, and employability skills.
- Address students' academic concerns and coordinate appropriate remedial measures.
E. Industry and Institutional Collaboration
- Establish and strengthen industry-institution interaction.
- Facilitate MoUs and collaborations with IT companies, software organizations, training institutions, and professional bodies.
- Organize industry expert talks, hands-on training, internships, and placement activities.
- Identify opportunities for industry-relevant certification courses and skill development programmes.
F. Research and Innovation
- Promote research culture and innovation within the department.
- Encourage faculty and students to undertake research projects and publish research papers.
- Support participation in funded projects, consultancy, patents, and technology-based initiatives.
- Encourage student innovation and entrepreneurship activities.
G. Quality Assurance and Accreditation
- Contribute to IQAC, NAAC, NIRF, AISHE, and other institutional quality initiatives as required.
- Maintain proper documentation and evidence of departmental activities.
- Ensure compliance with university, statutory, and institutional academic requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Computer Science / Computer Applications / Information Technology or a relevant discipline with the required minimum percentage as prescribed by applicable regulatory and UGC norms

- Ph.D. in the relevant discipline is preferred/required as applicable for the institution and regulatory norms.
- Must satisfy the eligibility criteria prescribed by UGC / affiliating university / applicable regulatory authorities.
Experience
- Relevant teaching and academic experience at the higher education level.
- Experience in academic administration and departmental coordination.
- Experience in research, publications, project supervision, and curriculum-related activities is desirable.
- Leadership experience in managing academic and departmental responsibilities is preferred.
