The Junior Resident in Obstetrics & Gynecology provides supervised clinical care to women during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and gynecological conditions. The role involves assisting in obstetric and gynecologic procedures, managing patients in wards and emergency settings, and participating in academic and training activities.
Key ResponsibilitiesObstetrics
- Conduct antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal patient assessments
- Monitor labor using partographs and assist in normal and assisted deliveries
- Assist in cesarean sections and obstetric surgeries under supervision
- Manage obstetric emergencies (e.g., PPH, eclampsia, preeclampsia) under guidance
- Provide immediate newborn care and coordinate with pediatrics/neonatology
- Counsel patients on antenatal care, nutrition, breastfeeding, and family planning
Gynecology
- Evaluate and manage patients with gynecological complaints
- Assist in gynecologic procedures and surgeries
- Perform routine gynecologic examinations and Pap smears
- Counsel patients on menstrual disorders, contraception, and reproductive health
General & Administrative Duties
- Perform ward rounds and maintain detailed patient records
- Attend emergency and on-call duties as per duty roster
- Order and interpret laboratory and imaging investigations
- Coordinate care with nursing staff and allied healthcare professionals
- Ensure adherence to hospital protocols, infection control, and ethical standards
Academic & Training Responsibilities
- Attend teaching rounds, seminars, and academic meetings
- Present cases and participate in audits and research activities
- Maintain logbooks and complete training requirements
Required Qualifications
- MBBS degree or equivalent
- Completion of compulsory internship
- Valid registration with the Medical Council
