The Senior Enterprise Technology Engineer, provides engineering leadership across bp's digital landscape, connecting squads with bp's platforms and engineering capabilities to deliver high-quality, scalable, and resilient solutions aligned to business strategy. They lead end-to-end technical delivery, ensure engineering integrity at scale, and actively manage delivery and technical risk while guiding teams through complex build challenges. Operating as a hands-on technical leader with strong customer and stakeholder influence, they balance long-term engineering excellence with near-term delivery outcomes, empowering squads to make sound technical decisions and fostering a unified, pragmatic, and sustainable engineering culture across bp.
What you will deliver
Technology
Leads a team of enterprise engineers to design, develop, and deliver high-quality platforms and services. Acts as a hands-on technical authority on bp's platforms, languages, and frameworks. Drives squad goals, prioritises initiatives, and delivers in a product-led, empowered environment. Guides modernisation of legacy estates to unlock future capabilities.
Delivery & Transformation
Owns end-to-end delivery of complex B2B commerce and customer portal transformation programmes — from discovery through build, migration, cutover, and hypercare. Manages delivery risk, sequencing, and dependencies across squads, vendors, and SI partners. Ensures legacy-to-modern transitions are planned for coexistence, data migration, and minimal business disruption.
Data
Engineers data-intensive solutions and integration flows across enterprise systems. Builds secure, governed, and interoperable data pipelines with strong quality, lineage, and observability.
Commercial Awareness
Applies engineering insight to cost and value priorities, including cloud spend and TCO. Evaluates tools and platforms for fit, resilience, and lock-in risk to inform build-vs-buy decisions.
Safety, Security & Compliance
Embeds secure-by-design practices and supports audit, licensing, and compliance obligations as part of routine delivery.
Collaboration & Influence
Acts as a technical expert, providing guidance and support to the squad and wider engineering community. Communicates clearly with team members, partners, and customers. Represents engineering in governance and design forums to resolve technical trade-offs.Leads and governs delivery partners, system integrators, and product vendors — ensuring architectural and engineering standards are upheld across the extended delivery ecosystem.
Building Teams
Shapes squad structures, tech-lead roles, and engineering capacity for complex programmes. Fosters an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture through technical leadership and collaboration.
Growing People
Mentors engineers across grades and supports succession planning. Promotes standard methodologies, maintainable code, clear documentation, and high-quality work.
Change Leadership
Leads engineering transformation and adoption of modern practices — DevSecOps, SRE, platform engineering, and AI-assisted development. Ensures quality in enterprise platform engineering at the squad level and owns the engineering narrative for change.
What you will need to be successful
Technical Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
8+ years of experience in enterprise technology, security, and operations in large-scale global environments with 3+ years in a technical leadership role.
6+ years of experience in B2B order to cash customer portal transformations using MACH principles and headless architecture.
12+ years of hands on experience building, leading and running commerce platform solutions such as SAP Commerce Cloud or Microservices architecture with SAP ERP/S/4HANA as a backend.
4+ years of experience building, leading, and running high-performance service engineering teams, with a focus on reliability, automation, and customer success.
Deep knowledge of ITIL, Agile, and enterprise IT governance frameworks.
Hands-on experience in development functionality accompanied by unit tests, integration tests, etc
Solid understanding of development in all areas of B2B E-Commerce, including Multi Country Product Catalog Management, Product Modeling, Inventory Availability, Shopping Cart and Checkout, Order Management, Search and Browse, SEO, Personalization
Strong experience integrating commerce platforms with SAP ERP / S/4HANA — using IDoc, BAPI, OData, RFC, SAP CPI/BTP integration patterns, and event-driven flows.
Strong technical foundation: advanced structured programming (Java), Spring frameworks, relational database concepts and structures, structured system analysis and design methods. Current industry design patterns such as microservices, SOA and standards (REST, GraphQL, ODATA..)
Experience working with Git version control system
Determined, able to work independently or within a team setting.
Experience leading delivery in vendor/SI partner ecosystems, holding partners accountable to engineering quality, timelines, and architectural standards.
Experience designing and delivering global, multi-country, multi-currency, multi-language B2B commerce solutions
Good knowledge of SAP Sales and Distribution is a big plus.
Experience working in Oil and Gas Industry is a big plus.
Certification on SAP Commerce or SAP CX with strong core foundational expertise on SAP ERP
Essential skills
Deep expertise in designing, building, and operating highly available, scalable, and resilient distributed systems.
Deep understanding of B2B-specific commerce capabilities
Strong hands-on experience with infrastructure automation, and modern CI/CD pipelines on AWS/Azure Clouds.
Demonstrated ability to embed observability, operational readiness, and lifecycle ownership into engineering delivery.
Proven experience in incident management, disaster recovery, and proactive reliability engineering for business-critical platforms.
Experience delivering solutions spanning custom build, configured platforms, and third‑party integrations at scale
Extensive knowledge of application performance monitoring and management tools.
Strong ability to resolve technical trade-offs across squads, platforms, and vendors — operating through influence as much as authority.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear delivery outcomes.
Desirable Skills
Experience with composable commerce ecosystems (commercetools, Mirakl, Spryker, BigCommerce, or similar) alongside SAP Commerce Cloud.
Experience delivering omnichannel B2B journeys spanning portal, mobile, CSR-assisted, and partner channels.
Familiarity with CDP, CRM, and marketing automation integration (e.g., Salesforce, SAP Qualtrics,) to support connected customer experiences.
Exposure to regulated or audit-heavy industries (Oil & Gas, Energy, Industrial) where B2B/B2C commerce intersects with compliance and contractual obligations.
Experience in delivering modern solutions leveraging AI‑enabled solution patterns, including AI/ML platforms, agentic architectures, or enterprise AI integration
