Job Summary
The Bodyshop Painter is responsible for preparing, painting, and refinishing vehicle body panels to restore Maruti Suzuki vehicles to manufacturer quality standards. The role involves surface preparation, color matching, paint application, and finishing while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare vehicle surfaces for painting by sanding, masking, cleaning, and applying body fillers, primers, and sealers.
- Mix and match paint colors using Maruti Suzuki-approved paint systems and manufacturer specifications.
- Apply primer, base coat, and clear coat using spray painting equipment to achieve a high-quality finish.
- Perform spot repairs, panel refinishing, complete vehicle repainting, and paint blending as required.
- Inspect painted surfaces for defects such as runs, dust particles, orange peel, or color mismatch, and carry out necessary rectification.
- Buff, polish, and finish painted surfaces to achieve the desired appearance and gloss level.
- Ensure paint quality, color accuracy, and finish meet Maruti Suzuki workshop standards.
- Maintain spray booths, paint guns, polishing machines, and other painting equipment in good working condition.
- Follow workplace safety procedures while handling paints, solvents, and hazardous materials.
- Minimize paint wastage and ensure efficient use of materials.
- Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping in the paint shop and work area.
- Coordinate with Bodyshop Advisors, Estimators, and Denting Technicians to ensure timely completion of repair jobs.
- Complete repair documentation and report any quality concerns to the supervisor.
- Participate in technical training programs to stay updated on new painting technologies, products, and repair procedures.
Required Qualifications
- ITI in Painter (General) / Motor Vehicle Body Painter, Diploma in Automobile Engineering, or an equivalent technical qualification.
- Certification in automotive refinishing or painting is an advantage.
- 3–5 years of experience in automotive painting, preferably in an authorized dealership or bodyshop.
- Experience with Maruti Suzuki-approved paint systems is preferred.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of automotive paint preparation, application, and finishing techniques.
- Ability to perform accurate color matching and paint blending.
- Familiarity with spray guns, paint booths, polishing equipment, and refinishing tools.
- Understanding of different paint systems, primers, clear coats, and refinishing materials.
- Attention to detail and commitment to delivering a high-quality finish.
- Ability to interpret repair orders and manufacturer paint specifications.
- Good teamwork, communication, and time management skills.
Working Conditions
- Full-time position based in an authorized Maruti Suzuki dealership or bodyshop.
- Requires standing for extended periods and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Regular handling of paints, solvents, and refinishing materials in a controlled workshop environment.
- May require overtime during periods of high workload.
