A VMC (Vertical Machining Center) Setter is responsible for configuring and calibrating CNC machines to produce precision machined components. They interpret engineering drawings, load programs, set tooling/offsets, and "prove out" the initial parts before handing operations over to standard operators.
- Machine Setup: Configure VMC machines by installing and aligning fixtures, work-holding devices, and cutting tools.
- Offsets & Proving: Establish and verify tool offsets and work coordinates. Run and validate the first component to ensure it meets strict drawing and tolerance specifications.
- Drawing Interpretation: Analyze complex engineering blueprints and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) requirements.
- Process Optimization: Adjust feeds, speeds, and tool paths to optimize cycle times, maximize tool life, and improve surface finish.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as Verniers, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Maintenance:
