Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Machine Technician to join our maintenance team. The primary focus of this role is to install, maintain, diagnose and repair industrial/commercial machinery with a strong preference for candidates with a background in refrigeration systems (chillers, coolers, freezers). The ideal candidate ensures all mechanical and electrical equipment operates at maximum efficiency, minimizing downtime and complying with all safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production machines, specialized equipment and, primarily commercial refrigeration units.
- Diagnostics: Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic faults in machinery. Troubleshoot refrigeration systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators and motors.
- Installation: Assist in the installation and commissioning of new machinery and refrigeration components.
- Refrigeration Specifics: Handle refrigerants, check for leaks, braze/solder joints and calibrate controls to ensure proper temperatures.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of service, repairs and parts used via maintenance software.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere strictly to OSHA standards, Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Inventory Management: Monitor parts inventory and order necessary components to ensure timely repairs.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; vocational training in HVAC/Refrigeration or Mechanical Maintenance preferred.
- Experience: 2–5 years of experience in industrial/commercial maintenance.
- Specialized Knowledge: Strong understanding of refrigeration principles (thermodynamics, fluid dynamics).
- Certifications: EPA Section 608 Certification (Type II or Universal) is highly preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency in using hand/power tools, pressure gauges, multimeters and leak detectors.
- Technical Literacy: Ability to read and interpret blue prints, electrical schematics and piping layouts.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, at heights, or in cold rooms/hot areas.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, nights and on-call rotations.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Familiarity with PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) troubleshooting.
