- Sample Management: Receive, label, process, and safely store samples (e.g., blood, tissue, chemical or environmental substances) according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Testing & Analysis: Execute laboratory tests and experiments under defined conditions, ensuring accurate and reproducible results.
- Equipment Maintenance: Clean, sterilize, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment. Troubleshoot minor technical issues and report major malfunctions.
- Data Documentation: Record observations, interpret findings, and prepare accurate, organized reports for senior personnel or management.
- Safety & Compliance: Strictly adhere to laboratory safety protocols, biosafety guidelines, and hazardous waste disposal regulations.
- Inventory Control: Monitor lab supplies, track reagent expiry dates, and assist with ordering materials to maintain stock levels. [1, 2, 3]
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT), Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
- Experience: Proven experience in a laboratory, hospital, or diagnostic setting (entry-level and senior roles vary).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in using laboratory instruments (e.g., centrifuges, microscopes, spectrophotometers) and basic computer skills for data entry.
- Soft Skills: High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a high-pressure environment.
- License/Certification: Valid laboratory technician license or phlebotomy certification (if applicable for medical roles). [1, 2]
