Job Title: Physiotherapist
Job Purpose:
To assess, treat, and rehabilitate patients with physical conditions affecting their mobility and quality of life, using manual therapy, exercise, education, and other physical treatments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment:
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients’ physical conditions through interviews, physical examinations, and diagnostic tools.
- Identify musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, or respiratory problems affecting patient movement and function.
- Set realistic goals and develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs.
- Treatment Planning and Implementation:
- Design and implement evidence-based physiotherapy interventions (e.g., exercises, manual therapy, electrotherapy, stretching) to help patients recover, relieve pain, and restore movement.
- Advise on appropriate physical exercises, posture correction, ergonomic adjustments, and lifestyle changes to support recovery.
- Educate patients on injury prevention and self-management strategies.
- Rehabilitation:
- Work with patients recovering from surgery, fractures, strokes, or other injuries to regain strength, mobility, and independence.
- Provide support for chronic conditions like arthritis, back pain, or neurological disorders, focusing on improving function and quality of life.
- Progress Monitoring:
- Track patient progress and adjust treatment plans accordingly.
- Document patient progress, treatment outcomes, and any changes in the patient’s condition.
- Conduct regular reassessments to evaluate the effectiveness of treatments.
- Collaboration:
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, etc.) to provide comprehensive care.
- Communicate with patients’ families or caregivers to ensure continuity of care and support.
- Education and Advice:
- Educate patients and their families about the importance of rehabilitation, pain management, and lifestyle adjustments.
- Provide guidance on strengthening exercises, mobility techniques, and injury prevention.
- Administering Therapeutic Modalities:
- Use physical therapy equipment such as ultrasound, TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation), heat and cold therapies, and hydrotherapy where appropriate.
- Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed patient records including treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
- Adhere to all legal and professional standards in documenting patient care and maintaining confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physiotherapy (or equivalent)
- Licensing: Valid physiotherapy license or certification (requirements vary by country or region)
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics.
- Proficient in using physiotherapy equipment and modalities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ability to develop tailored rehabilitation programs based on individual patient needs.
- Problem-solving skills to address complex patient needs.
- Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care.
Work Environment:
- Hospitals, private clinics, rehabilitation centers, sports clinics, or patient homes.
- May involve long hours, some evenings, or weekend shifts, depending on the work setting.
