Focus of the Role
Network Software Engineering Specialist will be working on the design, development and deployment in network specific technology domains, including developing platform specific technology roadmaps and making technology investment recommendations to deliver products and infrastructure to defined service level standards.

Job Summary:
Security Engineering Critical Services specialises in engineering and operational expertise for many of the core components that secure Telstra’s own network as well as customers’ data and services. The Deployment team plays a critical role in implementing changes in all Security Engineering platforms. As a Deployment Engineer, you will implement changes, provision users/roles, install SSL certificates, assist operation teams with fault investigation, modify DNS entries across many platforms including systems from leading vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, F5, CheckPoint, PaloAlto, Algosec etc.
Several business (internal and external) stakeholders, Network designers, Architecture and Engineering teams depend on the Deployment team for configuring the network device on time to deliver complex projects for customers in a timely manner and within budget. A Deployment Engineer collaborates with all in an effective manner, delivers the outcome on time and keeps relevant stakeholders informed at every step of the change implementation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work in shifts; typically, 3 shifts each day and 5 days a week with occasional weekend or off hours support with advance notice
- Implement changes in network devices such as router, switch, firewall, load balancers following Telstra change management process
- Log, track, update, close Incident and Change requests in change management platforms, change calendar and team charter
- Provision and deprovision users, roles, special access in the Securing Engineering devices and platforms
- Modify DNS entries in collaboration with internal stakeholders and operational support team
- Collect and Install digital certificates (SSL and TLS) in network devices including load balancers, firewalls, and servers
- Regularly collaborate with Network designers, L2 and L3 Operational support teams, platform engineering teams and internal business stakeholders
- Seek opportunities and implement improvement ideas of repetitive task automation, process optimization, customer experience enhancement
- Build and execute self-development plan to keep up with latest innovation in Security Engineering domain
- Moderate to excellent reporting skill with ability to identify trend and improvement opportunities using tools such as MS Excel, Power point etc.
Essential Skills:
- Minimum of 3+ years of Telecoms or IT industry experience with strong hands-on expertise in network devices such as router, switch, firewall, load balancers, DNS from multiple vendors including Cisco, Juniper, CheckPoint, F5, PaloAlto, AlgoSec etc.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/ Computer Science / Information Technology / Telecommunications
- Strong understanding and hands on experience with:
o Routers, Switches, Firewalls, Load Balancers, DNS
o Digital certificates and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
o ITIL processes – Incident, Change, Service Request Fulfilment
o ITSM and reporting tools – BMC Remedy, Excel, PowerPoint
o VM and network issue troubleshooting
- Advanced oral and written communication skills that can adapt to different teams, individuals, and personality types as well as able to author, review technical and non-technical documentation.

- Proven troubleshooting skills and critical thinking ability
- Ability to work in a team environment and be able to deliver expected outcome under pressure with multiple priorities
- Open and flexible to help others in the team as well as taking on additional responsibilities to support the team and business objective s as needed.
